Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO) is an indigenous Ghanaian social marketing organization duly registered in accordance with the laws of Ghana on February 1, 2017. We work to improve the health of people living in Ghana primarily through implementation of innovative evidence-based interventions that increases access to and utilization of health products and services in a measurable and impactful way. Our key intervention areas include Family Planning and Reproductive Health, Maternal, New-born, and Child Health (RMNCH), communicable and noncommunicable diseases, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), nutrition, and malaria. We utilize our deep insight and skills in Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and social marketing to promote positive social and behavior change among individuals and communities.

Job Description

Job Summary

The Research Director is responsible for leading all aspects of research of all TFHO projects and programmes. The role will work closely with the Technical Director and collaborate with other departments in the implementation of programmes. This individual will oversee all research aspects including planning, budgeting, training, reporting, etc.

Job Specification

  • The Research Director will supervise the development of M&E plans for specific programs, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and performance monitoring plans.
  • Design M&E plans for TFHO programs
  • Lead the design and execution of baseline surveys and ensure the production of high-quality reports.
  • Develop research proposals to include study design, methodology, and analysis plan.
  • Provide leadership to the research team.
  • Supervise team members to complete research projects within timelines.
  • Conduct research and collect data on topics such as consumer behaviour, economic trends, or public health issues.
  • Ensure the implementation of all necessary data quality protocols to enable the collection, management, dissemination, and storage of high-quality data.
  • Produce data and write supporting narratives as input into overall project reports.
  • Plan and coordinate research projects.
  • Present research findings to management and other stakeholders including marketing teams and partners.
  • Review research results to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure research activities do not violate ethical standards and laws.
  • Lead the management of project data for TFHO including data design, data collection, data preparation, and data visualization.
  • Develop tools and processes that encourage a “culture of information” within TFHO and ensure real-time analysis of data for operational decision-making.
  • Lead the development of program documentation and ensure lessons learned are integrated into project reports and shared within TFHO and with relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of field studies as needed.
  • Develop high-quality donor progress reports with particular attention to the accuracy of data; ensure compliance with TFHO organizational data reporting systems.
  • Lead the review and analyze data during the course of each project and suggest any modifications necessary.
  • Develop monitoring and impact indicators for project success
  • Prepare and, or as required, contribute to the preparation and delivery of written and oral reports, papers, briefings, and presentations.
  • Conduct capacity assessment on existing monitoring and evaluation system and suggest any improvement needed.
  • Assist project personnel with M&E tools and support them in their use.
  • Lead data preparation activities to prepare data for analysis and reporting,
  • Review scientific literature and identify trends and opportunities for research.
  • Conduct research on potential business opportunities to determine if they are viable.
  • Ensures compliance with donor standards and regulations, and TFHO’s organizational policies,
  • Develop and maintain critical relationships with in-country stakeholders including officers of the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, donors, and implementing partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualification and Experience

  • A Master’s Degree, Ph.D. preferred from a recognizable institution in Social Sciences, Demography/Populations Studies, Statistics, Epidemiology/Public Health, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with quantitative survey and qualitative research techniques including research design, sampling, questionnaire design, interviewing techniques, focus group moderating, analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and write-up of results.
  • Experience in operational research, design of data collection tools, strong data management, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Experience in statistical software in data analysis, database development and maintenance, and storage and file manipulation.
  • Experience with computer software for data entry and analysis, including STATA, Epilnfo and SPSS.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills

Knowlege

  • Strong knowledge of contemporary trends in Research, Monitoring and Evaluation methods
  • Working knowledge of TFHO policies, procedures, and practices
  • Thorough knowledge of the health sector and donor landscape in Ghana
