Job Description

RISE is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID—that works with countries to achieve a shared vision of attaining and maintaining epidemic control, with stronger local partners capable of managing and achieving results through sustainable, self-reliant and resilient health systems. The project is led by Jhpiego with the following partners: ICAP at Columbia University, Management Sciences for Health, Anova, BAO Systems, Johns Hopkins University Centre for Public Health and Human Rights, and Mann Global Health.

With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), RISE is working in selected countries, including Ghana, to address the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with ministry of health priorities, the project, is planning to rollout national vaccination plans, including ensuring health care workers are prepared to implement and monitor this plan; providing focused and clinically relevant capacity building for clinicians providing COVID-19 case management.

We are currently looking for dynamic individuals to fill the following position:  Biostatistician/Data Analytics Officer - RISE

  • Duration: 1 year
  • Reports to the MER Specialist

Scope of Work
RISE is engaged in several USAID projects with the requirement to demonstrate impact of project implementation through the development of abstracts for conferences including the publication of full articles in scientific journals. The biostatistician will support the MER specialist in modeling data points for data collection across RISE projects. S/he will be required to support data analysis and abstract/full article development.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implementing and managing robust, large-scale metadata ecosystems, including data management and the integration of structured data sources to generate epidemiologic insights.
  • Providing analytical support for assessments, surveys, and targeted desk reviews.
  • Liaising across the team, working with various project teams under RISE to execute various epidemiological methods and statistical analyses.
  • Disseminating first-author contributions to peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and presentations.
  • Undertake other assignments as may be needed.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Demonstrable outputs on significant projects with datasets and scientific publications in public health.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming proficiency using statistical software (mastery preferred across multiple statistical programs).
  • Demonstrated background in informational architecture.
  • Prior collaborative research experience is a plus.
  • Experience in database software and data management, including working in a cloud-based environment to develop data pipelines and work on multi-Terabyte data sets.
  • Experience in program evaluation and data management is an asset

Technical Qualifications, Special Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Expertise in designing and developing data cleansing routines, ensuring data quality procedures, including standardization, transformation, rationalization, and link matching, and maintaining workload isolation to allocate resources for querying data.
  • Comfortable working with a diverse team on projects related to human rights, historically marginalized populations, and sexual and gender-diverse communities.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, including timely responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated self-management with the ability to work on multiple tasks with short and/or competing deadlines.
  • Experience in scientific computing/programming and STATA, R, MPlus, or SAS is necessary.
  • Experience with advanced analytic approaches, including structural equation modeling and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.
