The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana) is a non-profit making peacebuilding Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). It is a civil society institution meant to prevent, resolve, and transform violent conflicts through collective and coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national state institutions as well as individuals actively engaged in peacebuilding practice in Ghana in order to avoid the duplication of efforts and maximize resources for more effective responses to conflict situations. The organization seeks to facilitate the creation of a sustainable culture of non-violence, justice, peace and social reconciliation in Ghanaian communities.

 

Job Description

WANEP is a West Africa sub - regional NGO whose mission is to enable and facilitate the development of mechanisms for cooperation among civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa. It has offices (National Network Offices) in 15 countries in West Africa. The Ghana office with its National Secretariat located in Tamale, is seeking two experienced persons to fill the position of a PROJECT FACILITATOR/OFFICER for a project dubbed Trust2Peace funded by USAID through the University of Maryland. Successful applicants will be stationed in Wa and Bolgatanga but work in a cluster of regions in northern Ghana. 

Key Responsibilities 
The Project Facilitator/Officer will be responsible for the effective implementation of community-level activities, working closely with the rest of the project team, partners, and stakeholders. S/he will support project implementation strategy design and lead delivery of interventions at the community and district levels including project studies, facilitating training workshops, and dialogue sessions in all project locations in Northern Ghana. 
 
1. Project work plans and budget preparation  
  • Support the project manager and finance team in the preparation of annual work plans and budgets. 
  • Lead in the preparation of project activity plans, drafting of activities’ terms of references and requests for field activities. 
2. Implementation, community and stakeholder mobilization 
  • Lead, mobilize and sensitize communities on key project strategies to ensure community buy-in, ownership of processes and results. 
  • Mobilize and technically facilitate community values training workshops
  • Assist in project studies, and community cohesion dialogue engagements
  • Undertake regular and planned field visits to all project districts' communities within regions assigned 
  • Create, develop and build effective relationships with stakeholders and beneficiaries. 
  • Identify and foster collaborative relationship with initiatives, other civil society organisations and public agencies working to promote security, peacebuilding, and conflict mitigation in project districts.  
  • Support in the recruitment and capacity building of a pool of facilitators and volunteers to help in the delivery of project activities in all implementing districts and communities. 
  • Work with WANEP Ghana’s National Early Warning System (NEWS) team to facilitate the tracking of early warning issues within your operational area to broaden analysis, reporting and stakeholder engagement towards building trust to peace.
3. Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting 
  • Support the Monitoring and Evaluation officer to design tools and collect field data for purposes of project improving learning and reporting. 
  • Support in drafting knowledge management tools and resources for sharing with stakeholders and the public.  
  • Write and submit activity and monthly reports. Support the project manager in writing quarterly and annual reports; within agreed timelines. 
4. Financial compliance 
  • Work closely with the finance team and project manager to ensure project activity funds are timely, appropriately and prudently applied and accounted for. 
  • Ensure all project field activities are carried out in compliance with WANEP Ghana’s finance and procurement policies as well as agreed donor requirements. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Must hold a minimum of a first degree in social science, peacebuilding, community organization, or related field from any accredited tertiary institution. A master’s degree will be an added advantage. 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of post-national service development intervention and/or community organization experience especially in peacebuilding, building community cohesion, conflict mitigation, gender and security. 
  • Competent in technically facilitating community group workshops
  • Possess great people skills with a flexible approach to get the best out of a range of relationships with project stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written including report writing and drafting of knowledge resources. 
  • Possess community mobilization knowledge and competences; be culturally sensitive and exhibiting ability to work actively with diverse range of stakeholders across northern Ghana. 
  • Ability to demonstrate high degree of professionalism within a rapidly changing and difficult peacebuilding, conflict mitigation and social cohesion landscape. 
  • Highly competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet resources
