It is a civil society institution meant to prevent, resolve, and transform violent conflicts through collective and coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national state institutions as well as individuals actively engaged in peacebuilding practice in Ghana in order to avoid the duplication of efforts and maximize resources for more effective responses to conflict situations. The organization seeks to facilitate the creation of a sustainable culture of non-violence, justice, peace and social reconciliation in Ghanaian communities.

 

Job Description

WANEP is a West Africa sub - regional NGO whose mission is to enable and facilitate the development of mechanisms for cooperation among civil society-based peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa. It has offices (National Network Offices) in 15 countries in West Africa. The Ghana office with its National Secretariat located in Tamale, is seeking an experienced person to fill the position of a RESEARCH, AND ADVOCACY OFFICER for a project dubbed Trust2Peace funded by USAID through the University of Maryland. The successful applicant will be stationed in Tamale with frequent travels to project districts in northern Ghana. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
The RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY OFFICER on peace and security will be responsible for the project’s component of research and reporting. S/he will also support the project’s monitoring, evaluation, knowledge sharing and lead project’s advocacy and public outreach efforts to deepen values, practices and initiatives that promote trust, cohesion, and peacebuilding in all beneficiary communities. 
 
1. Monitoring, evaluation, and learning data management 
  • Work with project’s consortium lead, members, and consultants to undertake project’s baseline, midline and endline evaluations to track project’s outcomes.
  • Lead, locally, in routine field data collection processes, procedures, processing and assist with analysis of information collected as part of studies, monitoring, and evaluation. 
  • Together with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff, work collaboratively with the consortium’s MEL project team and donor to design relevant MEL tools and strategies for use.
  • Contribute to high data quality assurances, and maintenance 
2. Learning, reporting and knowledge management 
  • Work with the team to identify, document and share best practices, lessons learned and trends to enhance project’s implementation and results.  
  • Lead the design and production of project’s knowledge management tools and resources for sharing with project partners, stakeholders and other audiences.   
  • Contribute to building a collaborative monitoring, evaluation and research culture and practices in the organisation. 
  • Contribute to the delivery of project learning review sessions with project’s team, partners and stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to effective writing of project’s quarterly, annual and technical reports and briefs. 
  • Lead the preparation of project’s presentations for diverse audiences and stakeholders based on need. 
  • Work with WANEP Ghana’s National Early Warning System (NEWS) team to facilitate the tracking of early warning issues within project’s operational areas to broaden analysis, reporting and stakeholder engagement towards building trust to peace. 
3. Advocacy and dissemination 
  • Facilitate advocacy campaigns and dissemination of written community values statements that build trust and cohesion, using diverse strategies including social media and radio. 
  • Lead the creation of high-quality content for purposes of engaging community members and the public on practices, values and initiatives that promote trust and cohesion. 
  • Identify and build effective working relationships with media houses in the project’s operational areas. 
4. Financial compliance 
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure project funds advanced for research, AMEL, and advocacy activities are timely, appropriately and prudently applied and accounted for. 
  • Ensure all project’s activities are carried out in compliance with WANEP Ghana’s and finance and procurement policies as well as agreed donor requirements. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Must possess a minimum qualification of a first degree in the Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Communications, Mathematics, or any other related field of study from any accredited tertiary institution. A master’s degree will be an added advantage. 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of post-national service work experience in the fields of development research, project evaluations, advocacy, and development communications.  
  • Possess excellent knowledge and practical work experience in the conduct of qualitative and quantitative data collection, including research design, data analysis and results communication. 
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written including report writing and drafting of knowledge resources. 
  • Possess high competencies in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet resources.
  • Possess high level of analytical capacity and experience in the application of specialist data analysis software.
