Job Description

As part of its work, PELA II requires the support of an experienced facilitator to support training, workshops, learning events, and other meetings remotely and in person where applicable. This is a one-year short-term consultancy.

Responsibilities
The Consultant would provide facilitation as well as provide pre- and post-meeting support and may also need to be present for meetings in Accra, Ghana as the Activity requires leading up to an event.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with PELA II to scope the event, including identifying objectives, audiences, constraints, key deadlines/milestones, measures of success, and any deliverables and/or reports that will be required after the event or quickly thereafter.
  • Conduct comprehensive interviews and/or administer online surveys as needed to solicit input from PELA II, USAID/WA, and other stakeholders to inform the design of the event.
  • Lead a collaborative, iterative process, with support from PELA II and USAID, to create a final event agenda that is participatory and focused on achieving the client’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with the PELA II team to create supporting materials, including slide presentations, handouts, and other collateral as needed to support the event.
  • Provide support as needed to help prepare event speakers to ensure the quality of their presentations, including providing speaker guidance, slide and handout templates, and other resources.
  • Work with the PELA II team and USAID to ensure that the logistics of the event are properly arranged, including checking on the appropriateness of the venue and its set up; procurement and presence of facilitation materials (i.e. sticky notes, easel paper); and other needs to ensure a successful event
  • Serve as lead facilitator, or co-facilitate, events that could range in duration from several hours to multiple days online and in-person and consisting mostly of presentations, supplemented by group discussions. In the course of doing so, the facilitator will ensure group dynamics, succinct summaries, focused learning, and excellent time management.
  • As part of workshop implementation, s/he will encourage critical discussion aimed at enabling participants to seek out ways in which the ideas presented by the presenters can be adapted to their national circumstances.
  • Collaborate with the PELA II team or USAID notetaker to prepare a summary report on the workshop including all results (highlighting key results), the workshop flow and dynamics, the complete workshop contents, and lessons learned concisely. It is intended that this document, which should be concise, should form reference material for future adaptation of the ideas and approaches covered in the workshop.
