Responsible to:   The Chief Executive Officer
    
Main Purpose of Job
Maintenance of the general supervision of the functions of the Operations Division comprising of Product Development and Support, Technical Services, Claims, Policy Holder Services, Information Technology and Reinsurance Departments.

Departmental Structure/Functional Units (**)

  • Product development and support
  • Technical Services Department
  • Policy Holder Services Department
  • Claims Department
  • Information Technology Department
  • Reinsurance Section Department

(**): While it is important to identify, recognize and make provisions for the performance of the listed functions, some of these functional units may be combined and/or outsourced to third party service providers or Consultants during the formative years of the company.

Key Tasks

  • Laying down detailed policy guidelines to be followed by departments under his/her supervision within the scope of the corporate plan,
  • Planning and co-ordinating the introduction of improved information systems in association with other divisional heads under his supervision
  • Ensuring that the activities of Underwriting, Reinsurance, Policy Issues, Claims, Policyholder Services and Information Systems are well co-ordinated.
  • Performing any other jobs assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Accountability
The performance of the Chief Operations Officer (COO) shall be measured by:

  • The satisfactory achievement of corporate objectives related to the development of the company's operations and the smooth running of the technical departments.

Required Skills or Experience

  • A recognized University degree
  • The Associate Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) Diploma, or
  • Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), or its equivalent, and
  • Five or more years post qualification experience in the insurance industry that relates to the life and general business portfolios.
