Background
IPA seeks qualified applicants for Field Manager positions for two research projects in Livestock and Nutrition, and Lively Minds to be based in the Northern Region with frequent travel to remote field locations within Ghana. 

Livestock and Nutrition: 
The proposed research will try to understand the potential for animal agricultural production and capture interventions to prevent and mitigate anemia among women of reproductive age in the periconceptional period in low-income regions. For now, the focus will be to develop rigorous measurement instruments to assess animal production and capture, Animal-Source Foods value chain engagement, and dietary intake of ASFs that will be integrated into the evaluation of the expected second-phase intervention trial. Study sites – Northern, Volta and Central Regions of Ghana.

Lively Minds:  
The Centre for the Evaluation of Development Policy (EDePo) at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) - the UK‘s leading micro-economic research institute – in partnership with IPA aims to evaluate the impact of training Ghana Education Service (GES) Kindergarten (pre-school) teachers and mothers of pre-school children in highly deprived communities in Ghana to setup and run educational play schemes in existing GES pre-schools, using local materials. Through educational play schemes, run by voluntary mothers at existing GES preschools, the ‘Improving early childhood development in rural Ghana through scalable low-cost community-run play schemes’ intervention aims to improve the quality of preschool activities as well as enhance parental awareness and aspirations. Study sites – Northern and Upper East Regions of Ghana.
 
Position Summary
The Field Manager will work closely with the Field Manager and will oversee the adequate execution of all field based data collection activities. The Field Manager will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Recruitment, training, and supervision of Field teams during field surveys; 
  • Development of training manuals for all data collection activities; 
  • Managing finances and tracking field expenditures; 
  • Assisting with data reconciliation and management;
  • Piloting and developing instruments with the Research Associate/Survey Coordinator/Research Manager;
  • Manage and track survey and intervention equipment used in the field;
  • Accurately evaluate the performance of field staff during recruitment, training and data collection; 
  • Adhere to all IPA survey protocols and ensure field teams also do same;
  • Report all concerns and issues immediately to the Research Associate/Research Manager;
  • Promptly respond to contact from the IPA Research Associate, Survey Coordinator, Research Manager or other IPA staff;
  • Be responsible for maintaining good relations with IPA, its employees, partner organizations and project participants;
  • Perform other work-related duties that may be assigned. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum educational qualification of HND in economics, statistics or related field. Bachelor degree is preferred;
  • Project management experience, as well as experience supervising, designing and implementing data collection and managing large teams of enumerators/surveyors is preferred;
  • Fluency in English and at least one of the dominant languages in the survey sites; 
  • Experience in field data collection in any of the project locations is a plus;
  • Excellent management, communication and organizational skills;
  • Experience working in an international NGO is a plus.
