Job Description

Position Summary /Job Goal
The female swim instructor will work with the supervising PE teacher and TA in a professional, collegial manner to provide the students with a positive aquatic learning experience following all the LCS rules and guidelines for teachers and TA’s. 
     
Supervised, evaluated by and reports to: Aquatics Director  

Performance Responsibilities:

• Plan and coordinate lessons with the supervising PE teacher according to the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety course outlines at the appropriate levels for the assigned groups of students.
• Keep accurate and complete records of students’ progress in the Red Cross forms as well as any PE class requirements to share with the supervising PE teacher.
• Follow the time table of the supervising teacher (attached) including reporting 30 min. before lessons start. Promptly be at the pool and prepared to teach 5 minutes before the beginning of each class. Spend the planning periods with the teacher whenever necessary.
• Create a positive environment encouraging participants to meet course objectives. 
• Be creative and flexible in presenting material and teach in a sensitive and effective manner.
• Be prepared to answer participants’ questions or know where to find the answers.
• Adapt teaching approaches to the experience, ability, and culture of participants so that they can achieve course objectives.
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including making sure that all teaching and practice areas, materials and equipment are safe. 
• Organize the lesson and students to ensure individual success.
• Know and be able to demonstrate the skills required for completion of the Water Safety Instructor course. 
• Use appropriate, positive corrective feedback to evaluate participants’ progress and correct problems. 
• Cover all material required in the prescribed course.
• Seek the advice and/or guidance from the supervising teacher whenever questions or issues occur.  

Required Skills or Experience

• Must be female
• Educated swimming instructor/ teacher from American Red Cross or equivalent
• Knowledge of implementing swimming programs

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a swimming instructor.
• Minimum of 1 year experience of working in a similar capacity teaching swimming to children
• Ability to  communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to able to function and solve problems independently and take initiative while keeping teacher and TA informed.
• Passion for teaching swimming to children.
