Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and analyze drill & blast equipment utilization to ensure maximization of mining or production efficiencies.
• Fully participate in the daily, weekly and monthly planning process to meet the operational budget and with key focus on drill & blast operating cost.
• Ensure that all drill & blast activities comply with accepted mining standards, relevant statutory requirements and safety management policies.
• Prepare, monitor and update production data associated with drill & blast activities; review Q/A data and digging sheets to determine areas of further improvement.
• Liaise with the contractor management to develop and implement procedures that optimize the drill and blast process.
• Responsible for supervising and providing technical support to all drill & blast contractors including Explosive Supply Contractor.
• Ensure that production plans, schedules and overall drill & blast KPIs are met by team members within the appropriate quality standards.
• Drive a culture of safety and maintaining safe work practices among drill & blast teams and mining department as a whole.
• Manage the performance, training and development of the drill & blast teams.
• Coordinate and account for the performance of contractors involved in drill & blast section

Required Skills or Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from an accredited academic institution.
• 8 years’ experience as a Mining Engineer with 5 years in drill & blast capacity in an open pit mining environment with adequate people management skills.
• Must possess valid First Aid, Blasting and Mine Captain’s/Superintendents’ Certificate of Competence.
• Excellent understanding of surface mining operations and applicable mining standards and legislation.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills with a consultative approach to delivering operational targets.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as an ability to interact with people of diverse cultures and levels.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Applications and standard Drill & Blast software packages.
• Medical fitness for the position and environment.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driver’s license.
