Job Description

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implementation of Company HES and Security Policies to Ensure Safe Work Environment  
  • Act on own initiative to identify and correct work place hazards, unsafe practices, security violations or environmental concerns.
  • Respond appropriately to station and line leaks or other emergency situations and assist other team members in conducting hypothetical drills. 
  • Inspect fire and other safety equipment and systems to ensure that they are maintained and operational. 
  • Perform basic safety duties such as fire watch and safety monitor.
  • Investigate cause(s) of alarms during emergencies.
  • Act as area authority for permitted work.
Operation and Maintenance 
  • Work with other team members or contractors in performing equipment start up and shutdown, daily operations and maintenance work processes. May act as field team liaison with subject matter experts.
  • Operate and support the maintenance of assigned pipeline segments and facilities (i.e. monitoring pressures, temperatures and flow rates, and making appropriate operational changes).
  • Evaluate alarm conditions as they occur and determine the proper course of action to correct the alarm condition. 
  • Monitor and coordinate natural gas movements, receiving/launching of pigs with system controllers, and customer contacts at delivery points.
  • Perform a variety of operating jobs which may include, but not limited to, setting and verifying valve and manifold line-ups; gas and diesel driven generators, launching pigs; pumping sumps; maintaining and cleaning equipment; changing orifice plates and blinds; meter calibration; and monitoring cathodic protection systems.
  • Monitor gas quality, draw samples, and liaise with the Gas Scheduler for laboratory tests of gas samples.
  • Assist with investigation and resolution of over/short gas imbalance situations.  
  • Read and record data from gas metres daily. 
  • Visually inspect the condition of equipment and pipelines to ensure that equipment is running within design limits and is properly maintained.
  • Read, collect and properly record machinery inspection data. 
  • Inspect pipeline (ROW) and submit inspection report. 
  • Carry out or participate in the inspection, performance and documentation of facilities compliance checks, and close out assigned actions.
  • Direct third party contractors in maintenance of Rights-of-Way (ROWs) including marking ROW limits, mowing ROW/vegetation control, and painting markers as, and when assigned.
  • Maintain and assist with minor repairs to pipelines and pipeline equipment including simple mechanical, instrumental and electrical repairs
  • Act as Person-in-Charge for lockout/tagout procedures for piping and equipment repairs.  
  • Identify waste generated and remove in accordance with WAPCo established safe practices.
  • Perform routine housekeeping in shop, field and control room work areas.
  • Participate in team meetings, work planning, scheduling, time management and in the standardization and improvement of team activities and work processes. Make recommendations for improvements to work processes based on data and obtain permission to implement.
  • Interpret MSDS requirements for the chemicals to work, for responsible persons.
  • Participate in quality teams at the field team and regional levels to improve and standardize work processes. 
  • Assist in provision of on-the-job training for newly recruited Operators.
  • Assist with the implementation of the business plan at the site team level.

Required Skills or Experience

  • HND in Engineering with minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience or OND/MET/EET Part 3, with minimum 7 years’ experience, 5 of which should be demonstrable; 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental principles;
  • Experience in Gas/Pipeline Operations; 
  • Experience in executing maintenance and inspection work;
  • Experience in Control Room operations;
  • Good working knowledge and use of Microsoft Outlook Office – Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Specifically learn and use the following in performing daily work processes:
  • Location of the station, pipeline facilities, manifolds, block valves and Rights-of-Way of assigned pipeline systems or system segments. 
  • Basic quality, tools and methods and the concepts of customer focus and business profit orientation.
  • Data collection and information management skills and techniques.
  • Routine Operations and Maintenance skills associated with assigned pipeline systems or system segments.
  • Basic technical principles associated with routine Operations and Maintenance skills of assigned pipeline systems or system segments.
  • Mandatory safety and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to follow through with action items.
  • Ability to make presentations at team meetings.
  • Ability to plan own work with minimal supervision, and focus on cause rather than solution.
  • Exhibit self-starting qualities, as well as willingness to follow procedures and take on responsibility for tasks.
