PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Creative Associates International (Creative Associates) is implementing the USAID/West Africa’s program Partnerships for Peace (P4P).  The five-year program will partner and consult with stakeholders at the regional, national, and sub-national level across several West African countries, to develop a shared foundational understanding of counter violent extremism (CVE) in the region. The findings will improve institutional capacity of organizations and governments to implement more effective and coordinated CVE approaches.
To lead and support the implementation of Partnerships for Peace, Creative Associates seeks to engage a highly qualified and motivated team.  

Position Summary
The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Accra P4P Team, and Country Representatives to manage our external and internal communications and promote P4P activities to a broad external audience.  He/She will promote a positive public image and control the dissemination of information on P4P’s behalf. Communication efforts will include a focus on external outreach to ensure public awareness of project activities and facilitate information access and sharing to strengthen reporting functions. 

Reporting & Supervision:
The Communications Specialist will report to the Chief of Party

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop effective corporate communication strategies
  • In collaboration with the P4P Technical team and Creative Home Office, Develop and manage communication materials (fact sheets, fliers, brochures, newsletters etc.) 
  • Draft content (e.g. cables, press releases) 
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of newsletter and reports on the progress and impact of program activities (including quarterly and annual program reports);

Required Skills or Experience

  • Successful applicant should have a strong knowledge of communications processes. As the position involves dealing with a wide range of stakeholders and organizations, the prospective candidate should have:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Social Science or related field
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
  • 3 – 5 years post-qualification experience in communications or media
  • Experience in handling, managing or overseeing public communications under international donor funded projects will be an advantage. 
  • Excellent strategic thinking as well as proven capacity to carry out similar assignments
  • Strong managerial skills and proven record of achieving results
  • Solid understanding of communication tools and mechanisms
  • Appreciation of ICT as a powerful communication tool
  • A working knowledge of personal computers including word processing, and presentation applications
  • Excellent oral and written English & French language skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing), speak persuasively, express complex issues in simple terms and present ideas clearly and concisely
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other implementing partners and the public
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and diplomatic skills
  • Proven ability to seize opportunities as they arise, work with a variety of stakeholders and promote their participation in the project implementation process
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines and to handle potentially controversial and/or very sensitive issues that require clarity, accuracy and speedy responses
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
