Description
World Education, Inc. seeks a local candidate for a Gender Inclusion and Child Protection Advisor based in Accra, Ghana pending award of a four-year contract from DFID/Girls’ Education Challenge/Leave No Girl Behind. The programme aims to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of highly marginalized out-of-school girls and transition them into formal school or employment. This programme seeks to decrease key barriers to access quality education, opportunities for employment and improving safety of highly marginalized girls in schools and their communities, while increasing girls’ knowledge and adoption of positive behaviours, empowering them to become leaders and role models within their communities.  
 
The Gender Inclusion and Child Protection Advisor reports to the Programme Director and is responsible for designing, implementing, and measuring gender-sensitive, disability inclusive and child protection strategies in agreed work plans. She/he will work to improve gender and inclusion imbalances in all areas of the project and ensure that all participating employees and volunteers of the program have been trained in child protection strategies. WEI will give special attention to candidates with a successful track record in promoting girls and disabled participation in education, employment and within the community.  
 
Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate activities focused on gender-sensitive, (disability) inclusive and child protection approaches with the primary objective of supporting the enrolment retention and transition of adolescent girls in formal and informal tracks.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to downstream partners.
  • Provide support to develop and disseminate papers on gender, social inclusion and child protection. 
  • Support the mainstreaming of gender, social inclusion and child protection throughout the programmes of all downstream NGO partners.
  • Monitor the implementation of gender, social inclusion and child protection strategies
  • Train and mentor staff in integrating gender-sensitive, social inclusion and child protection approaches in their implementation plans.
  • Support staff and downstream NGO partners in adopting gender sensitive programs and policies. 
  • Identify best practices and provide recommendations.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, Social Sciences/Development Studies
  • At least ten years of experience in managing gender and/or  inclusive  disability oriented programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge, design and application of child protection programing.
  • Experience in gender-related and inclusive education activities in Ghana 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills (including presentations) required

Preferred

  • Strong background in gender analysis, strategic planning, and gender equity integration, disability education and child protection
  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings, identifying community needs, working with community leaders and key stakeholders
  • Knowledgeable in monitoring and evaluation standards with a gender and inclusive focus
  • Demonstrated training experience 
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships and networks between government and civil society
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
