Job Description

Electrical Supervisor- Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Designated as the Responsible Person Electrical.
  • Must be fully committed to working safely and be responsible for the safe working practices, management and leadership of the crew.
  • Has overall responsibility for the safe operation, installation, maintenance, testing and fault finding of all electrical and electronic equipment and systems on board.
  • Reviews and updates Risk Assessments & Rig Specific Work Methods with Electrical crews on a regular basis. Ensuring the appropriate Risk Assessment is reviewed prior to the commencement of each task. Updating Risk Assessments and Rig Specific Work Methods and Procedures, following task completion where lessons learned can positively affect similar future operations.
  • Organise the workload of the electrical crew, ensuring safe, efficient and effective operations.
  • Responsible for the control and management of software in relation to rig based control and automation systems in accordance with company expectations and procedures.
  • Ensure familiarity with equipment and systems in order to restore essential services in emergency situations.
  • Ensure hazardous area electrical equipment is installed, maintained, repaired and inspected in accordance with company expectations and procedures. Ensure all hazardous area electrical equipment, including temporary equipment, is safe and certified for use and maintain an up to date register of equipment.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the high voltage distribution system. Ensuring high voltage electrical switching operations and access to high voltage electrical equipment is controlled and carried out safely. Permits to Work, Risk Assessments and Procedures are to be strictly followed.
  • Ensure portable electrical equipment is maintained and tested to PUWER and local standards. Ensure all portable electrical equipment is safe for use and tagged/dated and maintain an up to date register of equipment and follow quarantine procedures.
  • Ensure that all electrical and electronic work is carried out in accordance with the appropriate UK and local regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the general safety training of personnel within their area of work is carried out.
  • Supervise repairs, inspections, maintenance and installation of electrical equipment.
  • Maintain the electrical and electronic planned maintenance including all electrical safety equipment.
  • Ensure that all installation, modification, breakdown and unscheduled maintenance observed by the electrical and electronic personnel has been entered into the TAG Maintenance System.
  • Liaise with the Maintenance Superintendent for all aspects of the planned maintenance system.
  • Plan, service, maintain and install electrical equipment and in-service inspections according to planned maintenance system and the Classification / Certifying authorities.
  • Co-ordinate activities with the Master/OIM and communicate information relating to operational or maintenance problems involving other departments.
  • Communicate with the Electrical and Engineering Superintendents on shore.
  • Assist in the planning of refits, major repairs, modifications, installations and surveys.
  • Ensure that all electrical equipment temporarily installed on the rig for use by contractors is acceptable, correctly certified where necessary and installed in a manner to satisfy the Company and the Classification / Certifying authorities.
  • Ensure that the Competence Assurance of the Electrical Department is dealt with in a timely manner and to the expectations of the company.
  • Ensure that Offshore Electrical Appraisals are conducted in accordance to company procedures and completed on schedule.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of spare parts.
  • Assist with the budgetary control within their area of responsibility.
  • To participate in the Stena Drilling Competence Assurance Scheme.
  • Any other duties as required by the Master/OIM and/or Shore based Management.
  • Allocate tasks to Chief Electrician - Night and provide adequate supervision in order to ensure that all such tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of the personnel working under their direction and shall be expected to conduct operations at all times in full compliance with company procedures (SMS).
  • Identify and address any violations of procedures concerning personnel under their direction.
  • Continuous or repeated violations of policies or procedures should be highlighted and brought to the attention of the HoD/Master-OIM
  • Comply with the Management of Change Principle.
  • Actively participate in accident/incident investigations when required.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Work according to and promote Stena Drilling’s HS&E Policies and Procedures as well as fully commit to preventing any damage to the environment.
  • Responsible and accountable to conduct their tasks in full compliance with Stena Drilling Limited procedures.
  • Comply with Stena Drilling procedures for management of risk and Safe Behaviour Programme; ensuring that a suitable and sufficient risk assessment is carried out for all work activities.
  • Participate in the STOP system, complete and submit cards after discussions. Monitor and coach crew members to participate in STOP and carry out STOP audits.
  • Promote Stena Drilling’s “Golden Rules” and the rig’s “House Rules” during team discussions.
  • Attend and participate in Tool Box Talks and After Action reviews.
  • Ensure work site is safe and that all tools used are in a satisfactory condition.
  • Ensure that storage, handling and use of chemicals are done in accordance with procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is secured to prevent movement due to wind or rig motion.
  • Ensure familiar with correct use, type and location of all Oil Spill Equipment.
  • Comply with Stena Drilling’s waste segregation policy.

Training

  • Undertake training onshore and offshore to comply with the Training Matrix requirements for Electrical Supervisor.
  • Complete Stena Drilling’s Competence Assurance Scheme within 12 months of being assigned

Required Skills or Experience

  • Time served level 3 electrical or electronic technician with S/NVQ3 or equivalent and HNC or equivalent.

    • rigs/drillships
    • Experience with High Voltage, Dynamic Positioning and Drilling Control Systems and Hazardous Area Electrical Equipment
