Accra Hearts of Oak S.C. (“Hearts”) is Ghana's oldest and most decorated professional football club in continuous existence, established 11th November 1911.  Based in the Capital city of Accra along the Atlantic coastline, Hearts competes in the 16-team Ghana Premier League.  In its storied history the Club has won 20 Ghana Premier League titles, 10 FA Cups and the CAF (African continent) Champions League, Super Cup and Confederation Cup.  The Club plays its matches in the Accra Sports Stadium which holds nearly 40,000 spectators, and is affectionately known as the PHOBIA, for the fear it inspires in its opponents.

In 2018, Hearts will embark on one of its most ambitious projects in Club history with the development of the Pobiman complex.  This facility, scheduled to be completed in July of this year, will be the official training center and youth academy for the Club.  The facility will consist of state-of-the-art playing fields, classrooms, library, residential halls, dining facilities, health and wellness offices, a swimming pool, game room and film room.  It will provide training and educational opportunities for all three official teams of the Club (First Team, Auroras and Royal Oaks) as well as talented “cub” players from around the country.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The ideal candidate for the is first and foremost a dedicated problem solver with deep personal integrity and a strong work ethic.  He/she is highly organized, detail oriented, and a team player who works well under deadlines.  Importantly, this person understands how to  proactively develop and distribute innovative and compelling social media content that generates audience growth and engagement. 

Overall Accountabilities

The Digital and Social Media Manager will be the driver of the both the social media presence and social media promotional activities of the Club and a key contributing member of the Club’s communication department.  The successful candidate will have the ability to create impactful stories about the Club,  analyze the performance of said content and optimize the results.    .

Specific Accountabilities

  1. Understanding our target audience
    • Understands our target audience and feeds them with relevant and up-to-date information on a regular basis.
  2. Developing Innovative and Compelling Content
    • Develops relevant content and sets agenda to reach the club’s target audience on a daily basis.
    • Creates and distributes engaging written or graphic content in the form of e-newsletters, web page and blog content, or social media messages.
    • Ensures brand consistency in marketing and social media messages.
    • Oversees all graphic designs before publishing on social media channels to meet the expectations of the target audience.
    • Determines length of videos & type of pictures to be used on our social media channels. Visual content has a lasting effect on the viewer and so branding must be compelling and consistent.
    • Ensures all pictures and videos are watermarked before publishing on the social media channels.
  3. Planning
    • Together with the editorial team, sets very clear objectives on how best to deliver prompt and accurate news to meet the satisfaction of the target audience as well as provide feedback.
    • Creates and be guided by the approved monthly and weekly editorial calendars and schedules for our social media channels.
    • Creates marketing and social media campaigns and strategies, including budget planning, content ideation, and implementation schedules.
  4. Growing social media presence
    • Grows and expands the Club’s social media presence into new social media platforms, plus increases presence on existing platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
  5. Knowing the competition
    • Researches and monitors activity of company competitors, recommends counter strategies.
  6. Monitoring and providing prompt feedback
    • Constantly monitors all social media channels, becomes an advocate for the club on our social media channels, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
  7. Reporting
    • Collects customer data and analyses interactions and visits and uses this information to compile comprehensive reports for management indicating how best to improve future strategies and campaigns.
  8. Industry Best Practices
    • Monitors best practices in the industry and applies them to Club channels.  Ensures we are on the “front foot” when it comes to strategy and implementation. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Degree in Communications or Marketing or relevant field
  • Minimum of 5 Years of Experience with Social Media Management.
  • Marketing Experience, Content Creation, Copywriting, Graphic Design, Web Design and Strategy.
  • Data Collection and Analysis, Technology Skills, Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills, Attention to Detail, Self-Motivated, Creative Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and other social media best practices.
  • Skillful in photography (Skill in Graphic Design is an added advantage).
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills.
  • Able to explain complex social media data in an understandable way.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.

Performance & Success Measures

Performance will be measured monthly on the basis of generated average traffic which is linked to the quality of the social media posts, the level of activity on our social media platforms and the proactivity associated with news dissemination.

Reporting Relationship

This position will report directly to the Head of Communications.
