Job Description

United States Pharmacopeia ( USP) is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed, and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration, and these standards are used in more than 140 countries.

USP Ghana serves as a collaborative testing Site for USP reference standards.

 

Summary of Role

An EHS consulting firm is required to provide Technical advice on occupational safety, occupational health and environmental protection, the national law applicable, Guidelines of the company, good practices and monitoring of EHS activities;

The firm will also be responsible for evaluating the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.

Working scope includes:

  • Preparation of material and facilitation of trainings related to local regulations and best practices; personal/ sanitary hygiene; environmental education;
  • Preparation of mandatory reports (Ergonomic Report, and others mandatory by Ghana regulations);
  • Annual review of applicable legislation related to occupational safety, occupational health and Environment, informing USP about changes in them and giving the necessary support to the adjustments (creation of an action plan, if necessary);
  • Develop yearly schedule of activities and trainings,
  • Develop safety procedures in accordance to local regulations (such as: work at height, confined spaces, LOTO, Emergency Plan) and trainings related to these topics;
  • SDS’s revision;
  • Chemicals Inventory revision, including respective SDS’s;
  • Perform investigations in case of accidents or near-misses;
  • Inspect working conditions every 6 months, to make sure that there are no practices that might cause any safety or health risks to the staff;
  • Accompany inspections and audits conducted by public or private organizations;
  • Technical support for licenses acquisition and renovation (Fire Service, EPA); Certificates for waste Handling
  • Noise and lightning conditions monitoring;
  • Support in the process to manage controlled substances regulated by Ghana FDA, NACOB and Ghana EPA;
  • Quarterly meetings with the Emergency Response Team (Fire Service);
  • Support to perform quarterly inspections in the fire prevention equipment;
  • Quarterly Housekeeping Inspections;
  • EHS Integration for Service Providers and issuance of working permits (Work at height; Confined Spaces; Hot-Work).

Required Skills or Experience

  • The firm should possess a minimum of 10 years’ operating experience.
  • Possess a Professional and operating license / permit to operate in Ghana.
  • Have expertise and knowledge of regulatory compliance laws for the general industry including Pharmaceutical Testing.
  •  Ability to conduct safety training
  • Experience with compliance audits and EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and client specific programs) 
  • Must have consulting experience as well as experience working with the Pharmaceutical sector.
