The Aquaya Institute (Aquaya) is a non-profit research and consulting organization dedicated to expanding safe water and sanitation access in developing countries through science and innovation. Supported by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the five-year (2021-2026) Hilton Foundation Africa Water Quality Testing Fellowship Program aims, among other things, to collect water quality monitoring data from households, schools, and healthcare facilities in seven focal districts throughout Ethiopia, Ghana, and Uganda. This will provide a strong evidence base and inform strategies for water quality improvement interventions.

Field Enumerators for WASHPaLS rural sanitation study in Ghana

WASHPaLS is a research program funded by USAID. In partnership with UNICEF Ghana, WASHPalS will conduct a randomized controlled trial in the Northern region to evaluate whether targeted subsidies to ODF communities leads to sustained latrine coverage, quality, and use among the poorest and the rest of the community. The study will take place in the following districts in the Northern region of Ghana: Yendi, Tatale, and Kpandai. We are currently recruiting enumerators for baseline data collection in February-May 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Field Enumerator will be responsible for filling the household survey questionnaire with a mobile-based platform, which enables easy electronic data collection.

Specific duties of the field enumerators include:

  • Travel to rural communities as per research protocol.
  • Determine respondent eligibility and collect written informed consent.
  • Perform household survey and record data on mobile phone.
  • Participate in quality assurance procedures.
  • Conduct translation for qualitative data collection (as needed).
  • Perform other tasks related to the fieldwork that may be assigned by the Research and Program Officer.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Fluency in at least two of the following languages: Dagbani, Kokomba/Lekpapa, Twi.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Previous experience using a phone-based data collection platform.
  • Ability to conduct household surveys and key informant interviews.
  • Familiarity with Yendi, Tatale, and Kpandai districts will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working on previous sanitation research will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency speaking all three languages (Dagbani, Konkomba/Lekpapa, and Twi) will be an added advantage
