Job Description

Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, Inc. doing business as CARE International in Ghana (“CARE”) is seeking qualified candidates for a role as Project Director – Adwuma Pa. The full-time position will be based in Kumasi. 

 

PROJECT DIRECTOR – ADWUMA PA PROJECT
Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, Inc. doing business as CARE International in Ghana (“CARE”) is seeking dynamic, driven, qualified candidates for the role as Project Director – Adwuma Pa, reporting to the Head of Programmes. The full-time position will be based in Kumasi with frequent travel to the districts, and occasional international travel.

Candidate Profile
The Project Director – Adwuma Pa will provide leadership of the USDOL/ILAB-funded Adwuma Pa project and will be accountable for delivering the project results. S/He will ensure effective project management, partnerships and technical support for the implementation of the project. The successful candidate should possess significant experience managing program, financial, and operations of USDOL or other USG/international donor-funded project. 

Key areas of responsibility of the Project Director will include:

  • Ensuring optimal project performance against set objectives and targets in compliance with organizational and donor regulations
  • Building and maintaining productive working relationships with CARE management, the donor, project partners, and other key stakeholder( including cocoa sector actors) at district, regional and national levels. 
  • Managing the project’s operational, financial, and administrative priorities; directing planning, budgeting, implementation and M&E processes. 
  • With staff and partners, translating project goals and objectives into implementable strategies and plans. 
  • Overseeing the preparation of quarterly and annual project activity reports, M&E reports, and other deliverables, as specified in the donor agreement.
  • Communicating widely about the project to relevant stakeholders and leverage resources and networks to enhance outcomes and impact.
  • Supervising and mentoring project staff, delegating responsibilities as appropriate. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of project management experience preferably with an international NGO and/or involving USG-funded grants or contracts.  
  • Solid knowledge of and experience with the Ghanaian cocoa sector and its key stakeholders at all levels including Government and the private sector.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of child labor and related issues in the cocoa sector locally and regionally preferably with managerial and programming experience in the sector.
  • Proven ability to maintain working relationships with diverse stakeholders; engagement in coalition building and public-private partnerships.
  • Proven experience working in supply chains and/or skills training development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and relevant national language is required
  • Demonstrable success in building and managing diverse teams in a high pressure environment.
