Job Description

BACKGROUND - RING II
The Resilience in Northern Ghana (RING) II - Systems Strengthening activity focuses on enhancing the ability of all stakeholders to address poor nutrition and weak resilience in northern Ghana.  The RING II - Systems Strengthening activity will result in sustained improvements in the delivery of local services to achieve measurable improvements in the nutrition and resilience of an estimated 85,000 reproductive-aged women and children under five years old.

SUMMARY
The Director of Behavior Integration will have primary responsibility for ensuring that behaviors relevant to program results are defined and positioned as leading program outcomes. The director will maintain a strategic focus on achieving the behavior outcomes through the implementation and management of the program’s SBC strategy. S/he will ensure that there is a holistic approach to SBC programming that minimizes vertical programming and maximizes shared accountability for behavioral outcomes across all operational program areas.  S/he will report to the COP and will supervise and work with the full technical team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The BI DIR will:

  • Support the Chief of Party in development of the overall behavior integration strategic direction, with particular emphasis on behaviors and their intersection with agriculture, nutrition, and resilience.
  • Articulate behavior angles of potentially complex resilience, agriculture, and nutrition situations.
  • Work on integrated and specific strategies to enable behaviors.
  • Help groups determine factors of influence on the behaviors.
  • Collaborate with appropriate ministries on project activities.
  • Facilitate project activities within the project and across all stakeholders.
  • Represent the project with USAID and major donors and organizations in Ghana.
  • Lead, supervise and advise the project’s Technical Specialists across the technical team.
  • Contribute to the development of work plans, budgets and required reporting ensuring consistency with the Project’s strategic direction and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by RING II management.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Education: Minimum Master’s degree in public health or fields related to international development.
  • Experience: At least10 years of experience in managing programs.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Experience working with US government-funded cooperating agencies and contractors, host-country counterparts and government officials, USAID Mission staff, and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs or other donors. 
  • Demonstrated experience in development of program strategies, workplans reflective of the strategy and adaptive management of the strategy over time.
  • Experience developing and managing social and behavior change program efforts.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and resource demands for self and others.
  • Skilled in collaborative approaches to strengthening the quality of programming and implementation across the project.
  • Ability to prepare compelling presentations, written reports, data visualizations, and effectively present work/findings in international and country-level forums.
  • Confident taking initiative within defined scope and driving work independently.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Strong team building and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing teams of 5 or more.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of behavior integration and behavior-led programming a plus
  • Proactive and comfortable independently gathering information to complete tasks.
  • Languages: English fluency required.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
