Job Description

A social enterprise in the WASH and Agric sector is recruiting a Gender Equality Social Inclusion and Design Coordinator (GESI &DC) to be based in Tamale.

  • Base monthly salary range: GHC 4,000.00 – 5,000.00
  • Work location: Tamale with possible day and overnight travels to project operational regions.
 
Reporting line relationships:
i. Reports directly to the Head of Evidence & Analytics  
ii. Work closely with the Market & Value Chain Coordinator, Agronomist, and the Senior Management Team to achieve program goals and objectives.
iii. Have an indirect working relationship with the Agric Program Manager related to higher level technical needs.
 
General Job Description 
  • Under the direct supervision of the Head of Evidence & Analytics, the GESI & Design Coordinator shall provide coordination on Innovative Design & Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) to increase economic and social empowerment of smallholder women farmers, entrepreneurs, and Farm Business Advisors in all iDE Ghana’s project implementation areas. 
The GESI & Design Officer shall have a close working relationship with iDE HQ GESI and Innovation Lab Experts and other HQ/Canada iDE support team to ensure the inclusiveness of governance support and mainstream GESI and Design across all aspects of iDE Ghana’s programs.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities (modifications may be made at any time)
  1. Plan and lead Gender Equality and Social Inclusive (GESI) rural transformation strategy and implementation to achieve project objectives. 
    • Provide leadership, oversight, and build core capacities of project staff and FBAs/partners to mainstream GESI into all project interventions
    • Supports gender mainstreaming in the organization, participating in project Performance Measurement Frameworks (PMFs) review as well as project appraisal committees.
    • Initiates and leads policy analysis and research to generate specific evidence on gender and other social aspects of technical areas. 
    • Ensure the implementation and impact achievement of gender sensitive indicators for all projects
    • Contributes to Regional and Country level policy dialogue and advocacy to promote socially inclusive and gender-responsive approaches in agriculture, food security and nutrition.
    • Produce knowledge products and capacity development materials and leads the process of systematic capacity development and learning for iDE Ghana staff and to (i) raise their awareness and recognition of the critical role of gender equality and women’s empowerment in accelerating progress around Agriculture, and (ii) enhance their skills in gender analysis and mainstreaming gender in their interventions, policies, and programmes to build sustainable and resilient agriculture systems.
    • Monitoring of relevant GESI policies and legislation in Ghana as they affect smallholder women farmers, entrepreneurs and agribusinesses.
    • Represents the Organization at international/inter-governmental meetings and conferences; establishes, maintains, and strengthens strategic partnerships on all GESI related activities.
  2. With Support from Market & Value Chain Coordinator, ensure the facilitation of commercial lending to Farm Business Advisors, VSLAs, including women group.
    • Provide necessary assistances to Market & Value Chain Coordinator in mapping the financing institutions and commercial lending.
    • Supervise the piloting of micro-credit initiatives to farmer groups, including women groups.
  3. With support from Market & Value Chain Officer, initiate the development of business incubators/enterprise development centers
    • Provide necessary assistances to Market & Value Chain Coordinator in mapping: the business incubators initiatives; value chain-supply chain.
    • Supervise the institutional design of business incubators
    • Supervise the piloting of business incubators
  4. Lead on Innovation Lab and Design Initiatives
    • Apply various innovations methodologies (Human-Centered Design, behavior change methodology, behavioral economics, rapid prototyping and testing) in selection of effective and efficient solutions across all projects
    • Conduct in-depth qualitative research (ethnographic research) for HTTG project and other agriculture related projects 
    • Synthesis large amounts of qualitative data into digestible and visual story
    • Convert research findings into actionable strategies that are easy to operationalize

Required Skills or Experience

  • University degree or post-graduate qualifications in development studies, social sciences, human resources, gender/women studies, entrepreneurship, or related qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a development related organization
  • A Certificate in gender studies will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of gender and youth related issues in Ghana as they relate to value chain development and entrepreneurship
  • Demonstrate understanding of the private sector and women issues
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills
  • Good communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Must possess good critical, creative, and analytical skills
  • Good participatory skills, including the ability to foster teambuilding and facilitate planning meetings and workshops.
  • Ability to interconnect with a team of multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Good understanding of iDE’s rules and procedures 
  • Driven to achieve results.
