    Job Purpose
    The Fire Assay Technician will be responsible for carrying out day to day fire assay activities as assigned by the supervisor in-charge in a safe and environmentally friendly manner in accordance with Company’s requirements, best practice and statutory requirements.
    In summary, the Fire Assay Technician is the specific operator of the laboratory fire assay analysis, responsible for professional assay and analysis work, and responsible for the quality of their work; Meanwhile keep records of original data and data processing for tests and analysis, and issue reports; Responsible for equipment maintenance and upkeep; Planned consumables for assay; Assist in the preparation of assay methods and related technical documents for this profession; in line with the duties below.
     
    Primary Duties & Responsibilities
    • Ensure personal safety by performing tasks, risk analysis and wearing of prescribed PPEs for all tasks to be performed.
    • Perform daily routine tasks assigned in accordance with CNML policies and procedures within prescribed guidelines.
    • Follow-up on all QA/QC protocols and procedures.
    • Organize and store all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gasses according to safety instructions.
    • Ensure good housekeeping before, during and after every task and report any unsafe situation or hazards that are likely to obstruct production.
    • Ensure that the test report is issued objectively, accurately, clearly, and completely, and implement effective quality control over the standardization, preparation, information to be covered, issuance, archiving and other aspects of the report.
    • Manage and keep confidential the results, information of tests and other contents within the approved team on need-to-know basis. Ensuring confidentiality of technical information and trade secrets is essential.
    • Ensure effective communication with other Assay Laboratory employees working at other section of the laboratory.
    • Performs any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.
    Skills Required
    Minimum qualification (s)
    • WASSCE/”O” Level or relevant high school/ trade certificate.
    • Minerals Commission Processing Technician Certificate of Competency is desirable.
    Experience (Minimum)
    3 years experience in gold mineral processing with at least 1 year of performing Fire Assay Analysis/Laboratory Testing in a gold mine.
     
    Knowledge (In-depth)
    • In-depth understanding of AAS and Fire Assay principles and the ability to operate and practice them accurately.
    • Ability to work on LIMS independently and follow the Assay Laboratory Operation procedure.
    • Analytical procedure for gold analysis in both solids and liquids.
    • Understanding of the principles and being able to perform Cyanide, Caustic and other titrations required on a mine.
    Skills
    • Good team playing and with good observation skills and with good initiative spirit.
    • Ability to operate multiple assay lab equipment for gold analysis with good problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to perform activities involving repetitive motion and manually handle load of appropriate weight.
    • Computer application skills necessary for laboratory work, including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
    • Close contact with test technology, understand the relevant test item limits.
    • Familiar with relevant testing standards, testing methods and testing procedures.
    • Understand the equipment maintenance and regular verification/calibration regulations, know the status of the equipment. Familiar with records, reports, and verification procedures.
