    Job Purpose

    The Mine Superintendent is responsible for the overall management of the mine operation and related site services in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Mine Superintendent will be responsible for the safety and health of all employees, contractors, and visitors on site and will ensure that all work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner. The Mine Superintendent will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the mine plan, as well as the management of the budget and costs associated with the operation of the mine.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    • Oversee all aspects of mining operations and processing, in compliance with safety, environmental, and other regulations.
    • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities related to the production of minerals and metals.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders
    • Monitor production costs and budgets, and adjust operations as necessary to stay within budget
    • Supervise and evaluate mine operators and other personnel, providing training and mentorship as needed.
    • Prepare reports on production levels, operational expenses, and other topics for management.
    • Investigate accidents and incidents and develop plans to prevent future occurrences.
    • Inspect facilities and equipment regularly to ensure they are safe and meet regulatory standards.
    • Manage environmental remediation efforts, when necessary
    • Stay up to date on industry trends and developments, and attend conferences and seminars as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor/ Company.
    Skills Required

    Minimum qualification (s)

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
    • Valid Mine Superintendent’s Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana
    • Masters’ degree in relevant field is an advantage.

     

    Experience

    • 10 years’ mine production/operations experience in the gold mining industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role

     

    Knowledge

    • In-depth working knowledge of designing short to medium to long range.open pit mine plans utilizing computerized mine design programs.
    • In-depth working knowledge of mining software e.g. Datamine, SURPAC,Minesched, Whittle, etc.
    • Working knowledge in budgeting for mining budgeting and costing modules
