    Job Purpose
    The Sample Preparation Leader of Laboratory will coordinate and control the daily operations at the Sample Preparation Area and will ensure all activities at the area are performed in an efficient and effective manner to achieve daily safe production targets in compliance with Company’s requirements, best practices and statutory obligations.
     
    Primary Duties & Responsibilities
    • Ensures all employees in the team understand and comply with all health, safety, environmental, and human resource policies and adhere to relevant regulations applicable to all sections of the Assay Laboratory.
    • Conduct regular inspections at the Sample Preparation Area to identify hazards and ensure these hazards are mitigated immediately.
    • Collaborates with other group leaders and ensure effective compliance with energy sources de-energization procedures prior to maintenance work being performed on any sample equipment.
    • Coordinates sample reception, identification, preparation, circulation, storage, protection, retention, and cleaning, to ensure the integrity, representativeness, and validity of samples, and to ensure the scientific and fair test results.
    • Control and effectively manage equipment to ensure that it is in standard and reliable condition.
    • Ensures the standardization of sample reception, preparation, initial inspection distribution, identification, entry and other work, as well as the internal sample acceptance, circulation, storage, protection and processing management process.
    • Ensures the correct use and maintenance of all kinds of equipment in the sample preparation and ensure equipment are working in accordance with safety and technical operating procedures.
    • Ensures the confidentiality of assay report-related results, information, and other contents. Ensuring confidentiality of technical information and trade secrets is essential.
    • Performs any other related duties based on the exigencies of the Company as assigned by the Supervisor.
    Skills Required

    Minimum qualification (s)

    • Higher national diploma in Laboratory Technology or in relevant discipline.
    • Minerals Commission Processing Technician Certificate of Competency.
    • Valid Ghanaian Driver’s (minimum license B).

    Experience

    • 4 years of progressive working experience in a similar/Sample Preparation role including at least 2 years in performing sample preparation duties in the Assay Laboratory of a gold mine.
    • Experience in cataloging samples and use of Industrial Drying Ovens, Furnaces, Laboratory Crushers and Pulverizes.

    Knowledge

    • Good understanding of hazards and risks associated with Assay Laboratory operations.
    • Understanding of chemical handling, storage, usage, and disposal.
    • Good understanding of sampling principles, sample handling and storage.
    • Sample preparation workflow and related quality control requirements.
    • In-depth understanding of sample preparation and operation procedures.
    • Conversant with the use, maintenance, repair, and management of samplemaking equipment; technical data management and archiving.
    • Familiar with sample preparation workflow and related quality control requirements.

    Skills

    • Ability to evaluate the integrity, representativeness, and validity of samples to ensure the scientific and fair preparation of samples.
    • Critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
    • Good Metallurgical report writing skills.
    • Organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Dynamic knowledge and understanding of process plant operating and metallurgical practices.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with commitment to timelines, accuracy and professionalism.
    • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suit
