    Job Purpose
    • Responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of ore from the open pit mining operations by providing mine planning and scheduling expertise to achieve medium to long term production and development targets and ensuring maximum return to the business in alignment with health, Safety and Environmental standards
    • Plan, organize and supervise Contractor on the mine production operational requirements including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and project tasks
    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    Mine Planning Accountabilities
    • Directs ore reserve modeling and draw control including ultimate pit designs, short and long-term mining sequences, haul road designs, protective berms, overburden disposal sites, volume calculations, and identification of various grades of materials.
    • Must maintain long, medium and short-term mining plans that make the best use of the ore reserve, ensure the lowest possible unit cost and always have safety inherent in their design. The Chief Mine Engineer is responsible for signing or stamping, with his/her engineers seal, the mine design.
    • Coordinates the activities and resources to compile accurate mine budgets and cost forecasts with the appropriate site team input. Review and meet the needs and deadlines of the external budget customers. Ensures that the appropriate cost information and statistics are compiled and distributed within timelines so that the mine team can act when necessary.
    • Coordinates the projects management process for the site ensuring that an appropriate business case is calculated and considered in the overall mines business plan. May initiate and/or lead individual projects

    Mine Production Accountabilities

    • Plan, organize and supervise Contractor on the mine production and operational requirements including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and project tasks
    • Assisting in the borrow pit design and mining during the construction period.
    • Achieve all safety and production targets as set in the business plan
    • Assist the Mining Manager to ensure all Namdini workforce and Contractor complies with all regulatory and Ghana government laws governing open pit mining in the operational area

    Generic Accountabilities

    • Maintain effective communication between all levels of supervision and manage his/her team efficiently to ensure targets are met. This includes managing his/her team technically and with regards to discipline, coaching and mentoring in collaboration with the training unit/consultants to achieve both quality and quantity in output.
    • Accountable for preparation and professional presentation of feasibilities for new mining zones, changes to methodology or equipment, new equipment purchases etc. including the preparation of Capital Acquisition requests for senior management. This includes providing accurate and timely reports to Internal & External stakeholders as required. This includes interacting with geotechnical engineers and other technical staff to arrive at safe, optimal designs.
    • Performs any other jobs based on the exigencies of the mine/project as required by the Supervisor
    Skills Required

    Minimum qualification (s)

    • Degree in Mining Engineering (or an associated technical field)
    • Mine Superintendent Certificate of Competency

    Experience

    • Minimum of ten (10)years' working in an open pit mining environment
    • Minimum of five (5) years as Chief mine engineer/ Superintendent level.

    Knowledge

    • Experience must include designing long and short range open pit mine plans utilizing computerized min design programs
    • At least a year as Production superintendent
    • Project Management experience

    Skills

    • Expertise in relevant mining software eg. Datamine, SURPAC, Minsched, Vulcan. Alastri, Deswik, AutoCAD,Whittle etc.
    • Survey
    • Basic knowledge in Finance & Accounting
