UGBS Executive Development (UGBS-ED) is pleased to announce the Income Tax Workshop, Income Tax act, 2015 (act 896) as amended; income tax regulation, 2016 (l.i.2244); and revenue administration act, 2016 (act 915)

Course Overview
Ghana repealed its Internal Revenue Act, 2000 (Act 592) in 2015 and replaced it with the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896), which came into effect on January 1, 2016. All taxable persons are required to apply the requirements of Act 896. The Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) is meant to be a single income tax law to address the challenge of dealing with diverse tax laws and the various amendments on income taxation in Ghana. In addition. Ghana has passed a new Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915) and the Income Tax Regulation, LI 2244 and other amendments to the Act 896.

Course Structure
The workshop will focus on deepening participants' understanding of, and ability to comply with, Ghana's tax laws, with a focus on Act 896, Act 915 and Ll 2244. Specific themes of the workshop will include:

  • The worldwide taxation view of income of resident persons
  • Changes in the computation of employment, business and investment income
  • Changes in the treatment of capital gains and gifts and their impact on employment, business and investment income; realisation of assets with replacement or in mergers and acquisitions
  • Changes in tax exemptions. including faxes during the period, industry concessions and personal reliefs
  • The computation of in-kind benefit to employees in relation to staff loans.
  • Changes in fax penalties and interest
  • Changes in withholding taxes
  • Changes affecting donations to worthwhile causes
  • Changes and computation of capital allowances
  • Changes and computation of roll-over losses
  • The 'Modified Taxation' System
  • Revised regulations on tax clearance certificates and TIN
  • Tax offences associated with taxpayer attitude
  • Electronic documentation systems and Tax Accounts

Facilitators

Our facilitators are highly skilled and experienced professionals with international exposure working in both academia and in the corporate world:

Dr. Ibrahim Bedi - is a tax expert, Senior Lecturer and Director of Internal Audit at the University of Ghana, Legon. He obtained his PhD in Accounting from University of Ghana. He is a Fellow of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, (ACCA) and a member, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (lCAG) with over 15 years of significant global experience on issues of taxation, financial reporting, auditing and public financial management.

Prof. Mohammed Amldu - is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance at the Department of Accounting. University of Ghana Business School He earned his PhD from the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton, UK. He has more than 15 years teaching experience at the University level both local and abroad. He is a Chartered Accountant, with significant international exposure on issues of taxation and responsible finance.
