Description
The School is seeking to appoint a Custodian/ Handy Man
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Facilities and Operations Manager and will be dependable, skilled, and service-oriented. The post holder will maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning campus. The position combines custodial duties with general maintenance and repair responsibilities to ensure that the school facilities and grounds remain in excellent condition.
Custodial Duties
Arrangement of furniture, equipment and other accessories for set-ups for formal functions
Allocation/distribution of and keeping records on sanitary materials for use in the washrooms.
Requisitions for sanitary material, paper cups and items for set ups.
Assists in verification of sanitary materials purchased/supplied.
Portage of new and used furniture, equipment and other items.
Assistance to staff in moving to new residences and offices.
Maintenance and Handyman Duties
Perform minor repairs, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance tasks.
Conduct routine inspections of facilities and report major maintenance concerns.
Assist with preventive maintenance of school buildings, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
Support facilities projects and campus improvement initiatives.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and departments.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with school procedures.
Person Specification
A minimum of 3 years experience working as a handyman/ custodian in an institution.
Technical or vocational training in building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, or a related field ( desirable).
Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Basic knowledge of building systems and maintenance practices.
Good physical condition and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to read and write proficiently ( to be tested).
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of a Senior High School Certificate or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years experience in facilities maintenance, custodial services, or general handyman work.
Conditions of work
You will be required to work outside normal working hours including weekends and evenings.
Tasks are regularly performed with some risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, traffic hazards and possible violence.
The role requires regular lifting and bending.
The compensation package for the position is competitive; salary will depend on relevant experience and qualifications.
