Position Summary

The Head of School serves as the chief executive and educational leader of Springforth Community School and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, growth, and spiritual direction of the school. The Head of School provides strategic leadership for the Crèche, Preschool, Primary School, and Junior High School while ensuring high academic standards, operational excellence, financial sustainability, staff effectiveness, student well-being, and strong stakeholder engagement.

The Head of School is accountable for implementing the school’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and policies approved by the School Board.  The role requires an inspirational leader who can foster academic excellence, Christian values, organizational growth, and a culture of continuous improvement.

The Head of School serves as the primary representative of the school to parents, donors, government authorities, educational institutions, community organizations, churches, and other external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

A. Strategic Leadership and Governance

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for all academic, operational, and administrative functions of the school.

  • Lead the implementation of the school’s vision, mission, strategic priorities, and annual operating plans.

  • Develop and implement a rolling five-year strategic plan aligned with the long-term growth and sustainability of the school.

  • Serve as chief advisor to the School Board and School Management Committee on educational, operational, and strategic matters.

  • Prepare and present periodic reports to the Board on school performance, achievements, risks, opportunities, and future plans.

  • Ensure compliance with all Board policies and governance requirements.

  • Lead organizational change initiatives and promote innovation and continuous improvement.

B. Academic Leadership and Student Achievement

  • Ensure full implementation of both Cambridge and Ghana Education Service (GES) curricula.

  • Establish and maintain a culture of academic excellence and high expectations for students and staff.

  • Monitor and improve student achievement through robust assessment, monitoring, and accountability systems.

  • Lead curriculum review, enhancement, and instructional improvement initiatives.

  • Ensure effective teaching methodologies and best practices are implemented across all grade levels.

  • Promote inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, creativity, and student leadership.

  • Monitor student academic performance and establish appropriate interventions for struggling learners.

  • Ensure the effective integration of technology into learning.

  • Lead efforts to maintain accreditation and educational quality standards.

  • Establish measurable academic performance targets for each school level.

C. Student Development, Welfare and Christian Formation

  • Foster an environment that promotes the spiritual, emotional, social, and academic development of students.

  • Ensure student welfare, safeguarding, child protection, health, and safety policies are fully implemented.

  • Promote Christian values, character development, servant leadership, integrity, and respect.

  • Encourage student participation in extracurricular activities, leadership programs, sports, and community service.

  • Maintain appropriate student discipline systems that are restorative, fair, and effective.

  • Oversee guidance and counseling services for students.

  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

D. Human Resource Leadership and Staff Development

  • Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain high-quality teaching and administrative staff.

  • Lead workforce planning and succession planning initiatives.

  • Establish a performance-driven culture with clear expectations and accountability.

  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for leadership staff.

  • Ensure regular classroom observations, instructional coaching, and staff mentoring.

  • Design and implement annual professional development plans for staff.

  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and positive employee relations.

  • Foster staff engagement, morale, and organizational culture.

E. Financial Management and Operational Oversight

  • Provide overall oversight of school finances in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Administration.

  • Ensure responsible stewardship of school resources.

  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets.

  • Monitor enrollment trends, operational costs, revenue performance, and financial sustainability.

  • Review financial reports and present key findings and recommendations to the Board.

  • Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with financial policies.

  • Promote cost efficiency without compromising educational quality.

  • Ensure the effective management of facilities, assets, procurement, transportation, and school infrastructure.

F. Enrollment Growth, Marketing and School Development

  • Develop and lead strategies to increase student enrollment and retention.

  • Ensure achievement of annual enrollment targets approved by the Board.

  • Strengthen the school’s brand, reputation, and visibility within Ghana and internationally.

  • Develop and oversee school marketing, communications, and admissions strategies.

  • Monitor parent satisfaction and implement improvements based on feedback.

  • Establish partnerships with community organizations, churches, educational institutions, and businesses.

  • Ensure effective use of digital platforms, social media, and the school website to promote the school.

G. Resource Mobilization and Fundraising

  • Lead fundraising and resource mobilization efforts to support school growth and scholarship programs.

  • Develop annual fundraising and resource development strategies.

  • Build relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, alumni, and philanthropic organizations.

  • Identify grant funding opportunities locally and internationally.

  • Oversee fundraising campaigns for capital projects, scholarships, infrastructure development, and special initiatives.

  • Ensure transparent reporting and stewardship of donor funds.

  • Promote a culture of giving and stakeholder engagement within the school community.

H. Parent and Community Engagement

  • Build strong and positive relationships with parents and families.

  • Lead regular parent engagement activities, including PTA meetings and school forums.

  • Ensure timely and professional communication with parents regarding school matters.

  • Address concerns raised by parents, students, and staff in a fair and constructive manner.

  • Serve as the principal spokesperson and ambassador of the school.

  • Strengthen relationships with community leaders, educational authorities, and partner organizations.

I. Risk Management, Compliance and Safeguarding

  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, educational, and child protection requirements.

  • Maintain comprehensive risk management and emergency preparedness systems.

  • Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented and monitored.

  • Lead crisis management, health and safety, and business continuity planning.

  • Ensure compliance with all Board-approved policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education

·    Required: Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible educational leadership experience.

  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a school environment.

  • Demonstrated success in academic leadership, school improvement, enrollment growth, and staff leadership.

  • Experience working with international curricula such as Cambridge is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in fundraising, donor engagement, and strategic planning is desirable.
