JOB PURPOSE

The Heavy Duty Driver Mechanic is responsible for the safe operation, routine maintenance, and mechanical repair of the company’s fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and machines. This role bridges the gap between driving and workshop mechanics, ensuring that all equipment (both Zonda Tec inventory and customer units) is roadworthy, operationally efficient, and meets the high standards of the Tema assembly plant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform routine servicing (oil changes, filter replacements, greasing, and belt adjustments) on a variety of heavy-duty engines (Shantui, HOWO, or Sitrak).

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools and manual troubleshooting techniques.

• Carry out repairs on engines, gearboxes, drive shafts, suspension systems, and braking systems (air brakes).

• Repair and maintain hydraulic systems for earthmoving equipment (e.g., booms, buckets, and lifting mechanisms).

• Maintain detailed service logs and repair records for all vehicles and machines handled.

• Assist the Servicing team in Tema with the final fitment and testing of heavy-duty units to ensure they are mechanically sound before delivery to clients.

• Provide technical feedback to the Servicing Team regarding recurring mechanical issues noticed during test drives.

• Transport heavy machinery to and from the Tema servicing center and client project sites.

 QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum: HND or Diploma in Automobile/Mechanical Engineering OR NVTI Certificate Grade 1 & 2 in Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanics.

• Valid Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License with Class C, E, or F endorsements (must cover heavy trucks and articulated vehicles).

• Minimum of 5 years post-apprenticeship experience in a similar role (combining driving and mechanical work).

• Proven experience working with Chinese brands (e.g., HOWO, Sitrak, Mercedes, Shantui, SANY etc.).

Skills & Competencies

• Technical: Proficient in engine diagnostics, gearbox overhauls, welding/fabrication, and hydraulic repair.

• Analytical: Ability to listen to engine noises and diagnose problems without relying solely on computers.

• Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit to handle heavy tools and work in dusty or rugged environments.

• Soft Skills: High attention to detail, punctuality, and ability to work under minimal supervision.

• Geographical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian road networks (especially industrial corridors).
