Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd is a multi-pit mining complex located on the Asankrangwa Gold Belt, operating a 5.5Mtpa processing plant with expansion potential. The mine is owned by Galiano Gold Inc., a dual-listed (NYSE & TSX) mining company focused on responsible exploration, development, and operations.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Metallurgist to join our processing team at our Obotan Site. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and controlling daily process plant operations to ensure gold is recovered efficiently from the ore. This involves monitoring processing parameters (such as grind size, reagent addition, and leach conditions), guiding plant operators, checking recovery performance, and quickly troubleshooting process issues to maintain stable production. The role requires strong technical expertise in mineral processing, a commitment to safety and environmental compliance, and the ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to achieve production targets.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, practical experience in gold processing operations, and the ability to interpret metallurgical data to support decision-making and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Perform metallurgical accounting activities by reviewing, validating and reporting daily metallurgical data to ensure accuracy and verify plant performance against established targets.
Ensure that all operating parameters within the milling circuit, gravity circuit, CIL circuit and thickener are monitored and maintained within set targets.
Monitor and optimize reagent consumption through metallurgical test work and logistical management to improve cost efficiency.
Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams in planning and implementing preventive maintenance programmes to achieve plant availability and utilisation targets.
Ensure continuous monitoring and control of key plant parameters across all processing sections, especially reagent concentrations to the CIL circuit and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) with respect to WAD cyanide levels.
Comply with all Safety, Health and Environmental policies and report all incidents promptly in accordance with company procedures.
Participate in general and specific risk assessments, contribute to hazard identification and implement appropriate mitigation controls.
Inspect and verify ball charge levels in both mills during planned shutdowns or when required.
Monitor and record processes in the primary and mobile crushing units in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) approved by the Minerals Commission of Ghana.
Support the planning, scheduling and execution of mill relining activities.
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Minerals Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum of three (3) years' practical metallurgical experience in a gold processing plant.
Sound understanding of gold processing operations, including crushing, grinding, gravity recovery, Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), elution, gold room operations, tailings management and reagent management.
Experience in metallurgical accounting, plant performance monitoring and technical reporting.
Working knowledge of process sampling, test work, metallurgical balancing and data analysis.
Basic knowledge of mill relining planning and shutdown execution.
Knowledge of the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC), relevant environmental requirements and the Minerals and Mining Act of Ghana.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with experience using metallurgical information and process control systems considered an advantage.
Must possess a valid Ghanaian driver’s license and be able to operate light vehicles.
