The MGSSAMS Project is a large-scale agroforestry carbon programme being developed under Verra VM0047 and designed to integrate approximately 60,000 hectares of regenerative agroforestry across Ghana, onboarding tens of thousands of smallholder farmers into international carbon markets.
We are seeking an exceptional Project Manager with proven experience managing large-scale agroforestry or carbon projects from development through implementation and verification.
Position Summary
The Project Manager will provide overall leadership, planning, coordination, and execution of the MGSSAMS Agroforestry Carbon Project. The successful candidate will oversee project implementation across multiple regions, coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams, manage stakeholder engagement, supervise field operations, ensure compliance with Verra VM0047 requirements, and deliver project milestones on schedule and within budget.
The role requires a highly experienced professional capable of managing complex, landscape-scale climate projects involving government agencies, development partners, farmer organizations, validation and verification bodies (VVBs), and international carbon buyers.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
Lead the end-to-end implementation of the MGSSAMS Project.
Develop and manage annual and multi-year implementation plans.
Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams across technical, field, GIS, MRV, community engagement, finance, and operations.
Monitor project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and risks.
Report regularly to senior management and project investors.
Carbon Project Management
Ensure full implementation of project activities in accordance with Verra VM0047 requirements.
Coordinate project validation and verification activities.
Manage project documentation, evidence, and audit readiness.
Oversee carbon accounting, permanence risk management, leakage monitoring, and monitoring reports.
Coordinate with Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs).
Field Operations
Supervise regional implementation teams.
Coordinate farmer onboarding activities.
Oversee nursery establishment and tree planting operations.
Monitor agroforestry implementation quality.
Ensure timely execution of monitoring campaigns.
Stakeholder Engagement
Coordinate engagement with:
Forestry Commission
Ministry of Food and Agriculture
Environmental Protection Agency
Local Assemblies
Traditional Authorities
Farmer Cooperatives
Community leaders
Carbon buyers
Development partners
Validation and Verification Bodies
MRV & Digital Systems
Work closely with technical teams responsible for:

Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Forestry, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Professional Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is an advantage.
Essential Experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
Minimum 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience managing large-scale agroforestry, forestry restoration, landscape restoration, or carbon projects.
Demonstrated experience implementing projects involving thousands of farmers and multiple stakeholders.
Experience working across multiple regions and decentralized field operations.
Mandatory Technical Requirement
Hands-on experience implementing carbon projects under Verra standards, with demonstrated knowledge of VM0047 (Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation of Agricultural Lands) is mandatory.
Applicants without practical experience working with Verra VM0047 will not be considered.
