UMA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position: Mine Captain.

MINE CAPTAIN POSITION
Responsible for coordinating and supervising underground mining activities to achieve safe, efficient and planned production targets. Ensures effective shift management, compliance with mining standards and safety requirements, and optimal utilization of personnel, equipment and resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and supervise all underground production activities with strong focus on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) compliance and crew discipline.
Assist the Mine Foreman in the coordination and supervision of Bogging and Trucking operations during his/her shift, ensuring alignment with UMA’s production target and safety standard.
Maintain a proactive approach to operational performance by consistently demonstrating safety awareness and cost – conscious decision making
Liaise with the maintenance team to coordinate the servicing and availability of both mobile and fixed underground equipment.
To organise, lead, develop and monitor a team of people thus delivering specialist Contract Mining Services to the client and being accountable for the direct results.
Full comprehension that this position is highly sensitive and crucial to the company’s operations.
Co-ordinate with the maintenance department on the servicing of underground equipment both mobile and fixed.
Liaise with procurement to ensure mining consumable levels are provided to a satisfactory level to match production requirements.
Ensure underground training matrices are communicated and accurately maintained in accordance with training schedules and mining requirements.
Foster a disciplined and result driven team culture, ensuring all planned work is executed to required standards.
Take responsibility for personal and professional development, actively seeking opportunities to enhance skills and performance.
Building effective working relationships - the ability to build and maintain effective collateral and cross functional working relationship.

Desired Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Must have a minimum of 5 years working experience in an underground mining environment.
Must have a statutory certification from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana as an Underground Mine Captain.
Must be a holder of Mine Rescue and valid First Aid Certificate
Must have knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Mining Inspection Act & Regulations, In-depth knowledge in the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical Regulations)2012, (LI 2182) and Minerals and Mining (Explosives) Regulations 2012, (L.I. 2177).
Must have thorough understanding of underground mining operations, and solid safety performance at the personal and professional level.
Must be able to apply standards, policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
Must have good working knowledge with MS Office Suite.
Ability to drive and operate underground equipment will be an added advantage.
A proven successful track record of leading teams and managing people.
Must possess a valid Ghanaian driver’s license at least C & E classes.
Ability to interpret drill plans, drill holes and align equipment according to ground conditions.
A demonstrated passion for safety and a proactive attitude toward ensuring that safety is always paramount.
Broad knowledge in heavy earthmoving machinery and ancillary plant including all equipment as required for successful underground Mining.
