UMA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position: SAFETY SUPERVISOR & SAFETY OFFICER.

The position will provide you with an excellent opportunity to further develop your career in underground mechanised mining while working alongside experienced industry professionals in a safe, dynamic and outcome focused environment.

SAFETY SUPERVISOR & SAFETY OFFICER POSITION

Responsible for supervising and coordinating underground safety activities to ensure compliance with site safety standards, procedures and statutory requirements. Promotes a proactive safety culture, conducts inspections and risk assessments, and supports the operation in preventing incidents and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate underground safety activities and inspections.

  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures, statutory requirements and site standards.

  • Identify hazards, assess risks and recommend appropriate controls.

  • Conduct incident investigations and support corrective and preventive actions.

  • Promote proactive safety practices, including pre-starts, safety observations and hazard reporting.

  • Monitor ground control, ventilation, PPE, equipment and safe work practices.

  • Provide safety coaching, training and toolbox talks to underground personnel.

  • Maintain safety records and prepare reports on safety performance and trends.

  • Work closely with Mining, Maintenance and Technical teams to address safety risks.

  • Support continuous improvement of the site's safety culture and performance.

Desired Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Diploma / Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining, Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years' underground mining safety experience, with supervisory experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of underground mining hazards, risk management and safety legislation.

  • Relevant professional safety certification will be an advantage.

  • Strong communication, leadership and incident investigation skills.

  • Ability to work underground on a roster basis.

  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive underground.

  • Proficient in the use of Safety Database Systems (MYOSH, INX, Forwood, and HSE Central)

  • NEBOSH / Mincom Certificate /Safety Management Course /First Aid/Cert IV (Training, Assessment and Evaluation) is an added advantage.
