Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The mission of the Program Assistant will be to support, in general, the implementation of Oxfam America Extractive Industries program, Campaign, Research, Evaluation, public relations work in Ghana.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The mission of the Program associate is the following:
Objective 1.  Support Grant implementation

  • Monitor the implementation of sub grants
    • Prepare annual and final draft reports to donors
    • Communication:

Objective 2: Policy Analysis & Advocacy

Required Skills or Experience

Education

Relevant degree in a development-related field, preferably in social sciences, political science, international relations, law & human rights or similar or equivalent experience in closely related field;

Experience & core competencies required.
The candidate should have at least 2 years of experience with professional background in the fields of governance and human rights issues in West Africa. Specific experience on Extractive issues could be an advantage.

The candidate should also have:

  • Commitment to rights-based and gender sensitive approaches to development.
  • Experience in working with non-governmental and community-based organizations in West Africa
  • Experience in partnership, networks, grant management & program development
  • Experience in developing and managing campaigns, and in public mobilization.
  • Understanding of linking program work to lobby and advocacy, and to media work.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent command of especially English and French, both in writing and speaking.

Availability to travel frequently, mostly in Ghana

  • Sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts;
  • Excellent research skills, including desk and field research;
  • Diplomatic demeanor and ability to engage high level officials;
  • Good knowledge of or experience with public institutions
  • Highly organized, prompt, detail and deadline oriented.
