Job Description

Our client, a leading building construction company in Africa which has delivered numerous public, industrial, commercial, and residential projects meeting the needs of their clients within their budget is currently looking to hire a proactive Senior Site Engineer to aid its operations in Ghana.
ROLE PROFILE
The person will supervise the activities of the site engineers on projects. He will ensure that all projects are well managed and delivered on time following laid down procedures.

DUTIES

• Use planning software e.g. MS project, Design software e.g. AutoCAD etc.
• Mobilize human resources like carpenters, masons, tillers etc to project site.
• Construct leak-proof underground water retaining structures e.g. tanks, swimming pools etc.
• Construct concrete roof, balconies, roof gutter etc. that are leak proof.
• Use levelling instrument
  • Set out buildings
  • Align columns both horizontally and vertically
  • Check plastering gauge and plastered walls to ensure they are plumb
  • Check formwork alignment and bracing
  • Interpret structural details
• Understand concrete work and do concrete trial mixes
  • Check block work
  • Resolve all issues that may arise during tiling – tile sizes, spacing, straightness, squaring etc.
  • Interpret building services drawing

Required Skills or Experience

EDUCATION

• Sc. or HND in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum of 12 years’ experience and must have worked on site for a construction company for at least 7 years.

REQUIREMENT

Selected candidate must;

• Thoroughly understand concrete:
  • The various grades – C15, C20, C30 etc.
  • Trial Mixes
  • Slump test and the equipment used.
  • Honey combs and its causes in concrete work.
  • Preparation of concrete cubes and testing.
  • Maximum concrete pouring heights.
  • Curing of concrete.
  • Effect of water on concrete strength.
• Have excellent understanding of block work:
  • Squaring and plumbing of walls.
  • Placement of Gauges (intervals) and plastering of walls (A background of having worked as a mason will be an advantage).
• Be able to check for undulations in plastered walls
• Be thoroughly proficient in the use of levelling instruments.
• Be able to vertically align columns, windows, walls of multi- storey building and also horizontal alignment.
• Be conversant with formwork bracing intervals for columns and beams.
• Be able to set out column kickers
• Have excellent understanding of compaction procedures, equipment and layers and the various types of sand filling materials.
  Have excellent understanding of tiling work:
  • Location of off-cuts on walls and floors.
  • Use of and size of spacers.
  • Use of hole-cutters.
  • Use of edge trims.
  • What to do when tiles are not of uniform sizes, walls are not square etc. or when tiling around floor drains
• Demonstrate flexibility i.e. can supervise carpentry, masonry and reinforcement fixing. Knowing their building standards.
• Work in a team, motivate the workers and discipline when necessary.
