Our client an Export company with subsidiaries in other Africa countries is looking for an experienced and proactive Procurement Manager to help with their operations in Ghana.

Role Profile

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling sourcing activities for a selected group of specialty commodities as cocoa, cashew, coffee, beans & pulses, shea butter and grains. He/she will evaluate existing and potential supply for lowest total cost; implement a strategic sourcing approach while ensuring highest quality and service performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop commodities rolling forecast covering all territories in Ghana showing anticipated seasons, prices, potential opportunities and expected challenges.
• Develop short and long term procurement strategies designed to optimize service and quality, reduce total cost while meeting company goals and objectives.
• Maintain knowledge of markets, supply and demand drivers and their impact on prices, key industry trends and market dynamics.
• Receive the quotations/offers and samples from different suppliers and prepare quotation comparison statements with emphasis on price, quality, delivery period and terms of payment in order to submit for management review.
• Create, analyse and rationalize the cost structures of purchased commodities through the use of detailed cost modelling and other related tools.
• Continually develop deep supplier partnerships across supply chain to maximize communication, collaboration, opportunity and value to our business.
• Negotiate supply agreements and contracts employing strong knowledge of commodity production supply base, key industry and market dynamics, delivering the most competitive total delivered cost, quality and operational performance.
• Develop and incorporate structured price risk management and supply contingency planning within procurement strategies and clearly articulated in supply agreements for effective risk mitigation in compliance with corporate policies, goals and objectives.
• Prepare a plan for sourcing expansion in order to expand the company’s preferred supplier database and update suppliers’ background.
• Initiate business with potential suppliers by developing a strategy of identifying profitable suppliers
• Prepare monthly and quarterly report to Management

Required Skills or Experience

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Engineering, Economics and International Relations or any other related discipline
• At least, 8 years’ professional experience in strategic sourcing/procurement and should have a proven background of commodity business preferably from a well-known commodity export firm.
• Has had sufficient exposure to agriculture commodities/ingredients purchasing to recognize and anticipate varying specifications and market movements to secure competitive advantage and/or avoid financial and supply risks for the corporation.
• Has demonstrated success in creating and implementing strategic procurement plans, creative, problem solving, contract negotiating and supplier relationship building.
• Has successfully developed and implemented effective business strategies which call for coordination of activity across multiple functional areas.

Requirements

• Excellent Communication Skills (a good command of the English language- written, read and spoken)
• Must be IT oriented (Excel, Word & PowerPoint software)
• Must have a thorough understanding of procurement laws and knowledge of both local and international export regulations.
