Job Description

The incumbent will oversee the company secretarial activities, legal obligations and legal compliance of the company. This includes staying abreast of current and new legislation in order to give sound legal advice and providing legal support in both internal and external legal matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to put his/her stamp on a growing organization. Having worked in a comparable environment, the successful candidate will be expected to bring a wealth of experience in effectively managing the legal compliance function,

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform legal advisory role within the organisation;
  • Co-ordination of all day-to-day legal, compliance and company secretarial activities;
  • Oversee all legal obligations on behalf of the company;
  • Provide transactional legal support and contractual review, negotiation and drafting, including property, lease, rental, human resources and procurement agreements;
  • Ongoing review and reporting on material 'contracts;
  • Reviewing new business relationships with vendors, suppliers, agents and contractors:
  • Ensure that the business is legally compliant;
  • Guiding management on regulatory and compliance matters, including compliance auditing;
  • First point of call for any legal advice or interpretation and providing general legal advice;
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation;
  • Provide litigation legal support and work with internal staff and external counsel as well as
  • manage the relationship and service levels with all external law firms on matters that have been referred to them;
  • Keep abreast of current and new legislation by managing and maintaining the legal register;
  • Assist with formulating policy, particularly where legal interpretation is required, including the areas of Human Resources and contracting; and
  • Legal interpretation of and advice on all significant contracts.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Tertiary legal qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Must be called to the Bar in Ghana and be a member of good standing;
  • Possess exceptional knowledge of and experience in Ghanaian law;
  • Not less than 7 years of work experience as a senior legal advisor;
  • Demonstrable experience of good people and stakeholder relationships;
  • Ability to handle broad legal challenges;     ,
  • Have tenacity and unquestionable integrity;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Must be a team player.
