Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
To ensure that all mechanical equipment i.e. sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and  sewerage networks are functional at all times, implementing timely preventive maintenance schedule and prompt repair/replacement of malfunctioning components or damaged parts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, prioritize,  schedule and monitor emergency and regular repair/maintenance works for plant facilities, equipment and instruments;
  • Independently coordinate the repair and/or maintenance of all pumping station and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Develop and implement  a format for documentation
  • Develop and implement formal procedures for Proactive Maintenance Techniques for corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Work closely with the Heads of Engineering Unit and Operations/ Maintenance Unit to review technical specifications for equipment design and installation/post-installation support services.
  • Ensure the each facility and its associated equipment are operating within its design parameters and with the proper sequence of operation.
  • Ensure that routine monitoring, accurate documentation, and status report of all plants and equipment are carried out regularly.
  • Supervise the monitoring and troubleshooting of core plant components such including but not limited to pipeline networks, coarse screens, feed channels, wet wells, reactors, trickling filters, reactors, compressors, pumps, motors, motor starters, basic electrical systems, control systems, switch gear, motor control centers, emergency generators, and other related equipment.
  • Coordinate with Service Contractors on major repair works.
  • Ensure compliance to maintenance standards of plants and equipment manufacturers’ O&M recommendations.
  • Monitor service contractor’s work performance, billable hours, and quality of work, appearance, customer interface and job site management.
  • Maintain specific replacement parts inventories and manufacturers O&M manuals
  • Responsible for the perpetration of maintenance budgets, SOP, and Emergency Procedures
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by Management.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Age: NA
  • Gender: Male/Female
  • Educational Qualification: A minimum BSc./BEng in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University 
  • Work Experience: 3 years work experience working with water and wastewater treatment equipment. 5 years experience as a Practicing Engineer. 
  • Nationality: Ghanaian
  • Salary: Competitive
  • Expected Availability: Within 1 month

SKILLS

The ideal candidate for this position must possess and demonstrate all or most of the following competences:

  • Excellent technical knowledge of the operations, services and activities of a modern metropolitan wastewater program.
  • Principles, practices, materials, chemicals and operating procedures related to the operation and maintenance of modern mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Tools, equipment and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment.
  • Emergency maintenance and repair procedures related to wastewater treatment mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and explain test result
  • Principles and applications of mechanical engineering 
  • Mathematical principles.
  • Principles and practices of record keeping.
  • Ability to apply equipment management tools
  • Capacity to apply performance monitoring and improvement strategies for mechanical equipment 
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment policies, standards and enforcement procedures/requirements;
  • Pertinent international mechanical equipment treatment standards, local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Excellent hands-on skills for the operation and maintenance of sewage /septage treatment plant mechanical equipment
  • Good knowledge of the provisions of relevant nation legislations e.g labour laws, civil or public service laws, public service scheme of service for different occupational and professional cadres, public service procurement laws,
  • Strong and visible leader skill;
  • Effective decision-making skills
  • Sound oral and written communication abilities;
  • Very Good numerical and policy analysis skills;
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in office applications; and 
  • Excellent relationship skills.
