Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time Software Developer to join our core team in Accra to support the development of web and mobile based applications. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical problems including network issues in the Grameen Ghana office. The ideal candidate has a passion and skill for requirements gathering, product ideation, rapid prototyping, making things work in challenging environments, and seeing the impact of their work first-hand. She/he should be a good communicator and problem solver who adapts easily to new environments, likes to tinker, and can deliver under pressure.

Reporting and relationships:  The Software Developer will report to the Technology Innovation Manager

Availability:  The successful candidate will be expected to work 40 hours per week and may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends, occasionally.  Occasional international and domestic travel will be encouraged.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as a technology resource in the proposal/grant writing process
  • Design, develop, test, and document software applications
  • Maintain high Internet availability and address connectivity issues
  • Maintain and fix technology equipment used by Grameen Staff (e.g. laptops, phones, printers, etc.)
  • Work with tech team to setup and maintain servers used by project innovations
  • Assist in the setup of technology equipment (e.g. mobile phones) for field deployment
  • Assist in the procurement of technology equipment in line with Grameen’s procurement guidelines
  • Assist in the monitoring and tracking of technology services (e.g. Internet availability) and equipment
  • Work with Grameen’s global tech team to deploy and maintain corporate software locally
  • Contribute to Grameen’s overall technology vision and roadmap

Physical and Environmental Conditions 
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort.  This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.  Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.

Required Skills or Experience

  • 3+ year professional experience developing software and maintaining networks
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or similar degree preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong oral and verbal communication skills. Fluency in English required.
  • Experience with project management and software development methodologies, Agile in particular
  • Proficiency in the following languages: Java, PHP, Python, Javascript, HTML and CSS 
  • Experience developing mobile and web applications and with source code management systems (e.g. GIT)
  • Experience with technology procurement processes
  • Experience setting up, maintaining  and monitoring networks in office settings
  • Experience with Ubuntu and Windows operating systems
  • Previous extensive experience maintaining office technology systems
  • Experience with electronics - Arduino or Raspberry - development highly preferred.
