Job Description

A Reputable Life Assurance Company is seeking to engage the services of a Compliance and Risk Manager 
 
  • REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Managing Director
  • DIRECT REPORTS: No direct report
  • INDIRECT REPORTS: No indirect reports
 
JOB PURPOSE
Provide direction to the Company on general compliance and legal provisions as well as identify and assess threats, manage risk to the Company, employees, clients, reputation, assets and interest of the Company.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure the Company complies with its legal and regulatory obligations under the Insurance Act, Market Conduct Rules and other licensing conditions by the National Insurance Commission and Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorist Financing (AML/CFT) legislation.
  • Promote and sustain a compliance culture within the Company.
  • Conduct compliance training for staff and Sales Executives.
  • Conduct AML/CFT risk assessment in the Company. 
  • Liaise with other departments on general statutory compliance issues e.g. fire certificates for officer, business operating permits, insurance for offices, customer risk identification etc.
  • Maintain a register of compliance breaches containing information on the date, nature and extent of each compliance breach.
  • Develop detailed compliance and risk policies and guidelines that implement risk tolerances defined by Board and Executive Management.
  • Analyze risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating risks affecting business.
  • Comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the Company such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors and evaluating the Company’s previous handling of risks.
  • Ensure the Company’s risk management policies, limits and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations and strategic imperatives of the Company.
  • Oversee and monitor all risk management activities of the Company and ensure they are in constant alignment with Company’s risk management objectives
  • Ensuring the Company’s risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, rating agency standards and strategic imperatives of the company.
  • Any other related job that would be assigned from time to time
COMPETENCIES
Technical
  • Knowledge of laws of Ghana and constitution of Ghana.
  • Ability to draft contracts and other legal documents.
  • Extensive knowledge and appreciating of operation, legal, compliance and regulatory systems.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Good knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines and Insurance Act/ Regulations.
  • Knowledge of company practices, policies, procedures and systems.
  • Relevant knowledge and use of information communication technology.

Required Skills or Experience

  • At least 8-10 years working experience in the related field
  • University degree or advanced professional qualification from a recognized institution. 
  • Master’s Degree in Risk Management
