Job Description

Project Background

The Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity was initiated December 1, 2021, and will run for 5 years.  The activity will work closely with public and private sector stakeholders to improve the enabling environment for Ghana’s economic growth by (1) facilitating growth in export-oriented trade; (2) improving and developing product standards; (3) catalyzing investments in private enterprises related to high-value commercial crops; (4) promoting job creation, particularly among women and youth; (5) promoting economic diversification; and (6) increasing foreign exchange revenues from high-value export crops. GTI will facilitate investing in firms that trade goods across borders, spur innovation, and build the capacity of the entire trade sector. 

Purpose: 

The Grants Assistant will report to the Grants Manager. S/he will assist the Grants Manager on matters relating to GTI’s grants-under-contract (GUC) program.

Responsibilities:

S/he is responsible for undertaking the following tasks and responsibilities in a professional manner:

  • Provide support on developing the Grants Manual.
  • Contribute to grant evaluation, award, and post-award monitoring.
  • Assist with grants and contracts reporting.
  • Support review and editing of applicants’ proposals.
  • Help prepare grant agreements and build documentation/recording system.
  • Contribute to development and update of budgets during grant development and implementation.
  • Provide support on procurement and compliance.
  • Help prepare guidance material on grant and procurement requirements and procedures.
  • Monitor grantee and project compliance with USAID regulations.
  • Maintain grant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Support preparations of cost and no-cost amendments for grants, subcontracts, and purchase orders with Grants Manager.
  • Coordinate grants reporting to USAID.
  • Maintain regular communication and build relationships with technical leads and partner organizations.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications:

  • Must be a Ghanaian citizen.
  • A Diploma/Degree preferably in Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related topics.
  • A minimum of 3-5 year working experience with a USAID project or other international development organization is required, with at least 2 of those years managing grants under contract or sub-grants. 
  • Familiarity with key USAID grant mechanisms is a plus. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment and maintain client confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and be a proactive and efficient communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
