The INVEST Project
The Innovation in Non-Traditional Vocational Education and Skills Training (INVEST) is a 5 year initiative that will build sustainable pathways to enhanced economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive growth for 5,000 urban poor young women in Accra, Kumasi, and Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana. Working in high growth sectors, the initiative will test and scale innovative, sustainable models to improve the enabling environment, reduce gender-specific barriers to women’s economic participation, and enhance access to decent work for marginalized women in non-traditional sectors.   
 
Nature and Scope
The Knowledge Management Officer/Advisor will provide support for systematically capturing and sharing of programmatic learning, while ensuring their application within the INVEST project and WUSC’s Global Skills for Development portfolio. The Learning & Knowledge Advisor will establish mechanisms for the ongoing capture, management and dissemination of learning and promote its sharing throughout the INVES project and the wider organization at large. Tasks will focus on designing knowledge and learning capture methodologies as well as the strategic dissemination of lessons learnt tailored for project staff across thematic focal areas of Gender, TVET, Private Sector Engagement and Communications for Development. The learning products will be shared with INVEST and WUSC Communications HQ teams for further dissemination within and outside the organization.
 
In collaboration with the MERL Advisor, the International Volunteer will improve access to knowledge through the development of high quality learning products for internal and external use. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support in the design of learning resources and visualization tools including infographics, graphs, charts, one-page snapshots and/or summaries of findings, and other user-friendly products within the INVEST project for targeted internal and external audiences.
  • Support the design and development of a Knowledge Management Platform for the INVEST project and oversee its roll out.
  • Design and conduct regular Learning Review Consultations & Workshops with key stakeholders and/or partners. Ensure after-action reviews and lessons learned exercises, and other participative forms of community engagement and feedback collection.
  • Work closely with the MERL Advisor to derive key insights and lessons learnt that form content for strategic briefs, reports and communication materials targeting a variety of external audiences including donors, and partners.
  • Assist in documenting and production of best practices, lessons learnt success stories and other communication. In consultation with the MERL team, strategically disseminate findings, knowledge and guidance through various avenues, including but not limited to communities of practice, virtual or on-site workshops, conferences, and webinars, within Ghana and WUSC globally.
  • Assist INVEST staff, and Partners to ensure the correct use of data collection tools and forms developed by the project and provide training if needed
  • Proactively assist in regular gathering of information from the staff and Partners and ensure that all data collected from activities are entered in the M&E Database system in timely manner
  • Support with other MERL department duties and responsibilities as required by the MEL Coordinator.
  • Participate in project partners meetings to share experiences;
  • Participate in  in person orientation training; 
  • Ensure the representation and engagement of women in all activities and program benefits;
  • Submit volunteer timesheets, reports and deliverables as required by the project communication team and partner organization assigned to by WUSC.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Social Sciences, International Development, Knowledge Management, Statistics, Communication);
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a position with similar responsibilities and tasks preferably with international NGOs or operational UN agencies.
  • Proven ICT skills, especially in MIS and/or graphic design software programs;
  • Candidates should possess a basic understanding of statistical analysis;
  • Ability to translate data into concise and neatly designed project assets (briefs, case studies, infographics, etc.) is an asset;
  • Ability to capture and translate project results into compelling stories for a range of audiences. 
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and analysis;
  • High level presentation skills and experience using a variety of visual and written communication approaches. Experienced in designing and leading workshops to facilitate the capture of learning and best practices;
  • Ability to work effectively in an inter-cultural, diverse and complex work environment;
  • Ability to work as part of an international team in a participatory manner;
  • Skilled communicator and ability to work effectively across multiple cultures in English language - both written and orally;
  • Knowledge of a local language will be considered an asset;
  • Comfortable using online working platforms;
  • A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering.
