The company with its operations in Togo and Ghana has a project to Support and empower women and youth in Ghana’s Upper East and Togo’s Savannah Regions to increase production of certified organic and fair-trade shea butter and artisanal hand-woven baskets for the growing global natural products market.

Job Description

  • Location: Bolgatanga
  • Reports to: Grants Coordinator or Project Manager

Job Summary

The Gender Ambassador is responsible for coordinating outreach efforts focused on gender equity, informing community of gender equity issues and connecting them to BBI. The Community Liaison is also responsible for identifying ways in which the company can best meet the needs of the women in our communities to advance the company’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships in the local communities
  • Visit leaders within the community and regularly attend meetings of significant groups, providing information on gender equity and education on changing gender roles.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager or Grant Coordinator and supervisors to evaluate existing gender issue training materials, updating materials on a regular basis for all areas of activity
  • Document and recommend responses and action plans as a result of interacting with various individuals and organizations to meet the Company’s gender goals and objectives
  • Develops, plans, and/or coordinates various project-wide activities in conjunction with other departments for the purpose of enhancing gender equity, community relationships, improving customer services/programs, and promoting a positive image
  • Serves on relevant committees and represents the company at community events, project meetings, etc., for the purpose of developing relationships
  • Speaks and/or instructs in front of outreach audiences of all ages to promote gender equity in the community
  • Maintains statistical documentation of programs, partnerships, and resources developed for future community assessment and connection
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification on Gender studies, development studies/social science/international relations or another relevant discipline.
  • 3 Years professional experience in a Gender role or related field, with project management experience.
  • Ability to represent the company, work effectively, and build trusted relationships with community groups
  • Capable of analyzing community needs, conducting gender assessments, designing, monitoring and evaluation of gender projects. and recommending specific plans for modifying or extending gender equity programs
  • Positive, team-oriented, collaborative, and facilitative whether working with executive leadership, peer group, or with community
  • Ability to identify, address, and solve problems with resilience, professionalism and a sense of humor
  • Proactive in taking initiative to enhance programming and services
  • Ability to speak and write in English, speak in local languages (Upper East)
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and communications programs
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics to develop meaningful reports
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
  • Willingness to work with a flexible schedule to include evenings and some weekends
  • Must be able to travel within and outside region of employment
