Job Description

Location: The role will be based in one of the following countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia or Sierra Leone. The role is only open to candidates who are from and based in one of these four countries.

Contract: Full-time, permanent, 35 hours per week

The PWYP Secretariat is looking for a proactive and creative individual with strong communication, relationship/movement building and project management skills to join our team as Regional Coordinator for Anglophone West Africa (AWA).

The AWA Regional Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that National Coalitions and member organisations in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone are supported to achieve PWYP’s common goal of an open and accountable extractive sector. He/she is responsible for coordinating PWYP’s activities, outreach and engagement with National Coalitions, members and regional level donors and partners in the region, acting as the primary point of contact and conduit for information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with PWYP members, partners and donors to enhance campaigning, fundraising and advocacy effectiveness
  • Ensure the effective design and implementation of regional advocacy campaigns and strategies and design and manage sub-granting initiatives to multiple countries in the sub-region
  • Design, deliver and/or facilitate coalition building techniques and approaches to further the implementation of PWYP’s Vision 2025 strategy
  • Contribute to strategic planning, information exchange and fundraising for the implementation of Vision 2025
  • Implement monitoring, evaluation and learning practices to inform strategic planning and reflection
  • Manage and/or mentor others towards high standards of performance by providing appropriate support, and using a leadership style that will drive high levels of engagement and motivation

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience  coordinating advocacy and projects with civil society organisations and groups 
  • Knowledge and understanding of regional political context and stakeholders
  • Experience working with networks or coalitions
  • A strong track record of systematic project management
  • Familiarity with the global extractive industry transparency movement and with the basic structure / operations of the extractive industries in the region
  • Demonstrated track record of relationship building and influencing key stakeholders

Skills and Abilities

  • A demonstrated track record of relationship building and influencing key stakeholders
  • Excellent written and spoken English is required. Other languages (e.g. Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, French, Arabic) are an advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with colleagues based around the world
  • Ability to manage complex environments across different contexts and cultures
