Job Description

  • Reporting to: Technical Director
  • Duty Station: Sawla in the Savannah Region, Ghana
  • Duration: One (1) Year (Renewable) 
 
Purpose
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Post Holder will ensure effective and efficient implementation of a new project “Strengthening Grassroot Capacities for Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District”
 
Objectives
  • Coordinate a set of capacity building activities for community representatives on Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of Ghana.
  • Establishment of systems for timely information sharing and support for networks of community groups in Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism in the border areas of the district.
  • Facilitate collaboration among border communities, traditional leaders, State institutions and other CSOs to promote early warning to security threats in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District and beyond.
Main responsibilities
Coordination of Project Activities (60%)
  • Working with the Technical Director and other staff involved to coordinate projects activities on Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism.
  • Development of good working relations with local stakeholders and partners to deliver field level activities.
  • Facilitating training, exchange of information, networking and development of Community Peace Cells
  • Coordinating inputs from key stakeholders to produce and agree monthly work plans for project implementation.
  • Liaising regularly with local partners, providing day-to-day follow-up support in implementing Peace and Security support activities and highlighting issues for advice from the Line Manager. 
  • Advisory and ad hoc training inputs for local Stakeholders as required.

Project Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (30%)

  • Keeping project implementation on track and monitoring progress at all levels – organization and communities - role 
  • Undertaking and documenting project monitoring visits to verify project activities and discuss emerging issues and problems with stakeholders in the field. 
  • Keeping the Technical Director and other members of the project management team informed on progress and issues arising in project implementation.
  • Production of consolidated reports for internal consumption and to meet donor reporting requirements.
  • Delivering feedback (through appropriate formats and forums) to other project stakeholders.
  • Providing input for documenting project experience and developing case studies as needed.
  • Make input on the analysis of project evaluation and learning
Proposal Development (5%)
  • Support the organization in the identification and tracking of Peacebuilding and Prevention of Violent Extremism project opportunities.
  • Support the drafting of new funding proposals.
Other (5%)
  • Contributing to strategy reviews and the preparation of work-plans.
  • Providing information for fundraising and communication purposes as required.
  • Prepare for and participate in regular progress, strategies and planning meetings with the line manager, and at other staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, attend external meetings and workshops relevant to the organization’s work as agreed with the Line Manager.
  • Undertake other tasks in agreement with the line manager

Working Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience within an NGO or in the private sector in Ghana (A/I/R)
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: Conflict transformation & Peace building/ Prevention of violent extremism/ Disaster management & Preparedness/ Human rights advocacy. (A/I/R)
  • Knowledge of Participatory needs assessments tools and processes
  • Experience in training and adult learning especially in rural settings

Qualifications

  • University degree in Development Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Communication studies or other relevant social sciences (A/R)

  • Good negotiation skills: ability to negotiate win-win outcomes (A/I)
  • Project reporting and basic project management skills

Languages

  • Complete fluency in English (A/I/T)

 

  • Working knowledge of French will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of at least two of the local dialects spoken in the area (Gonja / Vagle/ Birifor/ Safalba)
