Company Profile

Abt. Associates Inc., a US-based company, is implementing USAID-funded President's Malaria Initiative VectorLink Project. The project is supporting implementation of malaria control strategies such as insecticide-treated mosquito net (ITN) distribution and indoor residual spraying (IRS). In Ghana, Abt has been implementing IRS in the northern sector since 2011 and is preparing for the 2023 IRS campaign.

Job Description

For the VectorLink project, Abt Associates is seeking qualified individuals to fill temporary positions of Site Managers and Field Supervisors at the following IRS operational sites:

Note: the project will not hire people under government payroll or employed by any other organization.

Prior to recruitment, selected candidates will go through a training to get oriented to the job tasks and responsibilities. Site managers and field supervisors will be under supervision of District Operations Coordinators.

 

Position

Duties/ Responsibilities

Site Manager

  • Coordinate all IRS site activities (morning preparation of IRS teams and end of the day clean-up of equipment and personnel) at an assigned operational site
  • Organize and lead coordination and planning of next-day movement for IRS teams and mobilizers through evening meetings with IRS site team
  • Populate daily spray outputs into the Spray Performance Tracker on a daily basis
  • Compile community-level IRS data at the end of each day to guide next-day movement of IRS teams and mobilizers
  • Responsible for completion and verification of all site-level paperwork (attendance and time sheets; daily health checks; etc.)
  • Responsible to review spray calendars per outstanding structures and communities and remind spray teams about their daily target achievement.
  • Responsible for timely dispatch of IRS teams to the communities every morning of the IRS campaign
  • Responsible for daily preparation of a soak pit for IRS activities
  • Ensure food for IRS teams is provided on time
  • Ensure water for washing and cleaning is provided at all times
  • Ensure all IRS equipment is well-functioning on a daily basis
  • Ensure environmental compliance and good sanitation at the IRS site at all time
  • Ensure personal protective equipment of personnel is cleaned and washed daily and organized for next day use.
  • Ensure sprayer cleaners/technicians properly clean and maintain all sprayers daily and organized for next day use.
  • Supervise the weekly calibration of sprayer Nozzles and general lubrication of sprayers
  • Supervise daily distribution of insecticides to spray operators  
  • Ensure weekly meetings at site is held to strategize on how to improve the spray performance of your assigned site.
  • Serve as master trainers for team leaders, sprayer cleaners/technicians and spray operators

Field Supervisor

  • Supervise IRS teams to ensure spray quality according to best IRS practices 
  • Ensure that all spray operators and team leaders are strictly complying with full PPE use
  • Ensure spraying is done according to environmental, health and safety standards by conducting  directly observing spraying and data capture per required daily supervision targets
  • While in the field, sensitize communities on IRS procedures, importance of house preparation, benefits and the role of household members before, during and after spraying
  • Assist spray members to collect spray data where necessary
  • Assist IRS teams in the field to resolve all operational issues and help improve spray performance
  • Participate in planning of next-day IRS team movements led by a site manager
  • Participate in all daily and weekly meetings to be led by the site manager
  • Develop plans to monitor teams’ weekly logistics and supplies and report to site managers (i.e., insecticide supply, transportation schedule, etc.)
  • Serve as master trainers for team leader/sprayer cleaners/technicians and spray operator training
 
 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum academic qualification of Diploma in any field.
  • Ability to manage groups of people and/or tasks under pressure with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to conduct supervision and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Good verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to speak and understand a local language of northern Ghana is an advantage.
  • Possession of a valid motorcycle driver’s license is an advantage.
  • MUST have a valid health insurance policy.
  • MUST be able to use a mobile phone to perform basic functions such as sending SMS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide support with operating digital devices will be an advantage.
