Job Description

A reputable and rapidly growing organization is seeking the services of  smart, confident, performance oriented and experienced professionals to occupy the position of Head of Credit


Business and Financial Performance

  • Grow the loan book of the institution and ensure profitability
  • Identifies, mitigates and monitors risks in the credit function
  • Prepare annual budget for the department
  • Strive to meet the profit target of the credit department

Client Centricity
Conduct market surveys and identity new and viable markets for lending business

People Management

  • Monitor and control the performance of all loans and overdrafts
  • Monitor and control the performance of Credit officers to make recommendations to the Head of Human Resources.
  • Initiate plans for recruitment, training and development of Credit Officers in accordance with the loans portfolio development and makes recommendations to the Head of Human Resources.

Process, Control and Operational Performance

  • Review lending policies and procedures on a regular basis and submit appropriate improvement plans and strategies
  • Compiles, disseminate and monitor implementation of lending policies, procedures and Bank of Ghana regulations (especially regarding classification and recovery of outstanding portfolio).
  • Monitor the following-up of evolution of the rate of loans in arrears
  • Submit weekly credit statistics and reports to the Managing Director.
  • Submit quarterly reports to the Managing Director and Members of the Board of Directors on overall lending performance.
  • Devises and keeps a roster for regular branch visits in order to assess lending performance
  • Monitors the application of the loan accounting system in all branches and ensures that loan accounts balances, commissions and interest are properly calculated

Strategic Initiatives
Plan and initiate strategies for portfolio development and recovery of loans

Required Skills or Experience

MBA in finance, marketing or a closely related field

A minimum of five (5) years post graduate experience in credit operations for micro & small businesses.

  • Track record in a management position of a financial institution servicing the MSME and Micro Finance sector. 
  • Knowledge of bank and/or non-bank financial institution operations.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills;  
  • Ability to multitask and work within deadlines; 
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel,  & Outlook (or similar software);  
  • Basic analytical and statistical skills


  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management and employees
  • Excellent relationship management with good presentation skills  
  • Must be adaptable, innovative, and possess good analytical skills & sound judgment
  • Strong customer service focus and ability to work well with people from varied backgrounds and cultures at all levels in the organization
