Job Description

An International NGO in the WASH sector is seeking to engage a Head of Operations in Tamale. Applicants MUST be based at the indicated location.

  • Department: Business Operations 
  • Reports to: Managing Director, Sama Sama (MD)
  • Start Date: 1st March 2023 
  • Direct reports: Customer Fulfilment & Service Delivery 
  • Work location: Tamale 
  • Area(s) of operations: Across all business operational areas (including potential opportunities) 
Reporting line relationships
  • Reports directly to the Managing Director (MD, Sama Sama)
  • Work closely with the Head of Sales and Head of Credit and Finance 
General Job Description 
Under the direction of the Managing Director Sama Sama, the Head of Operations Sama Sama (HOO) is responsible for overseeing the business’s ongoing operations and procedures. The HOO is therefore responsible for the efficiency of the business service delivery and operational activities across operational districts.
 
The HOO role is a key member of the senior management team, reporting only to the Managing Director and maintaining control of diverse business operations.
 
The title holder will work in partnership with the Directors of IDE Ghana to implement the organizational business strategy of Sama Sama. The HOO will also implement new processes and approaches to achieve sustainable growth of the social enterprise. The HOO will manage operational strategies including developing Sama Sama core business units in the areas of market development, quality delivery & customer service. 
 
The goal of the HOO position is to secure the functionality of the business to drive extensive and sustainable expansion across Ghana but also proactively identify growth strategies in the following areas: Market Penetration, Market Development, Product Development, and Market Diversification.  

Key functions and Responsibilities 
  • Design and implement business growth strategies, plans, and procedures.
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth.
  • Establish policies that promote company culture, values, vision, and mission.
  • Oversee daily operations of the company and establish cross-functional partnerships with Sales, Credit & Finance, HR, and Evidence & Analytics team etc.
  • Implement mid-long-term strategy objectives relating to strengthening supply chain activities.
  • Lead all recruitment, onboarding, training and territory assignment of all new Sama Sama staff driving scale-up and expansion activities.
  • Ensure premium customer experience, effective feedback loops from the field and troubleshooting bottlenecks in a timely manner.
  • Drive commercial orientation - budget management and achievement of service delivery targets. 
  • Lead employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication.
  • Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics in salesforce to make recommendations on commercial pivot points.
  • Write and submit reports to the Sama Sama MD in all matters of importance.
  • Manage relationships with partners and vendors including TBOs and material suppliers among others.
  • Promote gender equality across Sama Sama’s market ecosystem.
  • Manage market diversification exploration and pilot of new products.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Sama Sama MD relating to your scope of work.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in Business Development, Water & Sanitation, and Social Sciences.
  • At least 10 years proven experience managing complex projects and managing managers in a supportive manner.
  • Experienced and efficient leader.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Must possess unmatched business acumen.
  • Must demonstrate exemplary work ethics.
  • A positive “can do” attitude with the ability to identify opportunities and overcome challenges.

  • Good knowledge of the WASH sector is an advantage.
