Job Description

  • Location: AFREhealth Secretariat, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi

Summary scope of work
The Finance and Compliance Officer will support the finance and program functions of AFREhealth. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist with the financial management of AFREhealth and ensure that all grant-funded programs and activities are carried out in accordance with donor regulations, guidelines, and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Examine financial documents such as invoices, payment vouchers, expense reports, etc. to ensure completeness, accuracy, and validity.
  • Maintain a cash register to ensure that there is a proper audit trail of all cash transactions within the organization.
  • Ensure account receivables and payable activities are performed accurately and timely.
  • Maintain accounting documents and archive on a timely basis and in accordance with AFREhealth data management procedures.
  • Prepare documentation for settlement of statutory payments.
  • Post and update entries in the accounting system and ensure the financial system is always up to date with financial data.
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and other financial reports, accruals and projections.
  • Review the reconciliation of travel and project advances.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Develop and implement compliance monitoring plans for each grant.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all grant-related documents, including applications, contracts, budgets, and reports.
  • Monitor and review time and efforts documentations of AFREhealth consultants and subawardees and ensure timely settlement their request.
  • Regularly review grant agreements, terms, and conditions to understand compliance requirements.
  • Support the development and review of grant budgets.
  • Perform other official duties as assigned

Required Skills or Experience

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in related field (Finance, Accounting, Business Administration)
  • Partial qualification of any of the professional accounting bodies i.e. CA Ghana, ACCA, CIMA would be an added advantage.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in analytics, reconciliations, and processing of payments.
  • Excellent accounting, auditing and monitoring skills.
  • Experience in using Quick Books Accounting Software or any other Accounting Software and Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience in managing grants (Experience in managing grants from U.S. Government, UK Government aid, Foundations and other donor funding agencies would be an added advantage.
