Job Description

Job Purpose
The Plant Operations Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the process plant and supervision of contractor operational activities and ensuring that production targets are met. This includes managing a team of contracted operators, monitoring process performance, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. The incumbent must have experience managing process facilities in the mining sector and a solid foundation in mineral processing.
 
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Accountable for overseeing and enhancing the HSE performance of contractors and workers at the process plant facilities.
  • Ensure that contracted employees are aware of cost, production, and HSE performance statistics, in order to encourage growth and involvement in possible improvements to every KPI.
  • Ensure that the TSFs, ancillary facilities and process plants remain in compliance to company policies and standards, and MINCOM regulations.
  • Managing and giving top priority to large equipment shutdowns in order to minimize their effects on the ore treatment plan.
  • Provide project management input into activities relating to operational and engineering projects involving, Scope of work, SOPs, drafting of plant checklist and task observations
  • Preparing cost evaluations for operational scenarios that account for variations in production levels brought about by the introduction of new ore sources or toll treatment opportunities.
  • Developing an operations area yearly budget based on anticipated treatment estimates. This includes monitoring accrual data, operating costs, and expenditures (OPEX, CAPEX), as well as quarterly, annual, and monthly reviews and justification of any discrepancies and under financial constraints.
  • Establish reporting mechanisms to record performance and achievements in relation to targets and areas of concern which include:
  • Examining and approving reports to be submitted to regulatory bodies that describe environmental compliance actions related to ore treatment at CNML Operations;
  • Ensuring that the proper documentation and reports are kept for metallurgical investigations;
  • Assuring the proper documentation and reports are kept for routine process and maintenance monitoring programs.
  • Ensuring the appropriate investigations, reports, and responses are prepared for safety incidents.
  • Performs any other related duties assigned by the Supervisor based on the exigencies of the Company

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • Degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical, Chemical or related engineering discipline.
  • MINCOM Superintendent competency certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience

  • 10 years of working experience in base metal or precious metal processing plants, 5 years of experience in a managerial role in a gold processing plant operations.
  • Operating experience in crushing, grinding, flotation/CIL, preferably flotation operation experience.
  • Experience in the pre-treatment process of fine-grained disseminated refractory gold ore, such as fine/ultra-fine grinding.

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of mineral processing technologies, industry standards for cyanide use and TSF management.
  • Advanced knowledge of comminution processes, especially the SABC process and practical experience is best.
  • Advanced knowledge of the operation of flotation, especially gold-containing sulfide flotation.
  • Advanced knowledge of the cyanide leaching process of gold ores, especially CIL/CIP.
  • Understand the detoxification process for cyanide-containing tailings or solutions.
  • Understand metal balance, water balance and cyanide balance work in the mineral processing plant.

Skills

  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (written and oral).
  • Being able to use Chinese is a plus
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and SAP.
  • Advanced planning, organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
