Job Description

Job Purpose
The role of the Plant Supervisor is to supervise, lead and mentor plant / shift operations crew to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Process Plant, particularly the Gold Room, to achieve production targets and ensure that the company and departmental KPI’s are achieved in line with company requirements, best practices and statutory obligations.
 
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the companies Isolation & Work Permit procedures are followed and that effective controls are in place for the isolation of plant and equipment to ensure repair work can be undertaken safely. This includes leading efforts to ensure that effective controls are in place for isolation and safe systems of work.
  • Develop a culture of reporting all incidents/accidents and ensuring that all staff understands these are opportunities to learn, improve and make sure like incidents do not happen again.
  • Take the lead in completing safety tasks to drive department wide improvements in key safety aspects such as housekeeping, SOP compliance and safe operating behaviours. This includes taking responsibility with the plant team for ensuring that CNML safety standards with respect to mechanical equipment and installations are maintained across the site.
  • Provide leadership, direction, mentoring, support and motivation for the Process Plant Operators. This includes assisting the HR/process plant training unit in developing training matrices and competency based training plans for Process Shift Operator positions.
  • Ensure that security procedures are followed in order to minimize the opportunities for theft of gold bearing material or company property.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of the plant, people and the environment. This includes assisting in the implementation of the required standard operation procedures in the running of the plant.
  • Supervise the shift team who are responsible for the operation of the process plant and associated facilities. Instruct shift team personnel on safe work practices and conduct work place inspections on a regular basis.
  • Reduce variation within the production circuits to allow for continuous improvement and provide input into the continuous improvement process.
  • Review operating reports / log sheets throughout regular scheduled shifts and take corrective action to maintain operating parameters.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all plant downtime events so that areas of focus can be identified for improvement.
  • In conjunction with the plant leadership develop and execute short and medium term (daily/weekly) operating plans for the safe and efficient running of the process plant.
  • Develop strong relationships with Maintenance personnel to ensure plant maintenance requirements are reported, recorded and acted upon in a timely manner. This includes inspecting primary production and auxiliary equipment regularly for maintenance integrity.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the Supervisor based on the exigencies of the Mine operations.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

  • HND/ Degree in Mineral Engineering/ Chemical Engineering / Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
  • Mincom Processing Officer’s Certificate of Competency.
  • Valid Drivers’ License.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience operating in medium to large complex gold processing plants with production experience in large gyratory crushers, Ball Mill, gravity separation circuits, flotation cells, CIL circuits and gold recovery circuits, etc

Knowledge

  • Competency in Crushing, Milling, Floatation, Leaching, & Desorption.
  • Understanding of and experience in using and issuing of Isolation Control and Work Permit Procedures.
  • Must have experience using MS Excel & MS Word.
  • Production experience in gyratory crushers, large Ball mills, flotation and, gold recovery circuits.
  • Training Systems development and implementation.
  • Supervisory experience in culturally sensitive environments.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing and at all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and to take initiatives
