Job Description

Reports to GM- Construction

Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This includes preparing cost estimates, managing budgets, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that the project is completed within its projected budget. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring that expenditures are kept within approved limits.
  • Conduct cost analysis and present detailed reports on project costs to the project manager and other stakeholders.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Ensure all contractual obligations are met and that changes to contracts are accurately documented and agreed upon.
  • Resolve any contractual disputes that may arise during the course of the project.
  • Assist in the preparation of project schedules and timelines.
  • Monitor project progress and identify any deviations from the planned budget and schedule.
  • Provide financial advice and recommendations to ensure project profitability and efficiency.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring they meet the project's quality and cost requirements.
  • Manage the procurement process, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Identify potential financial and contractual risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and update project stakeholders on potential issues.
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports, including cost forecasts, budget updates, and expenditure reports.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and payment records.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet required specifications and standards.
  • Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other construction professionals to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Facilitate effective communication between all project stakeholders, ensuring everyone is informed of project progress and any issues that arise.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Master’s Degree or professional certificate in the role will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficient in cost estimation software and tools.
  • Thorough understanding of construction contracts, tender processes, and procurement.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in a recognized professional body or similar.
  • Experience with large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other modern construction technologies.

Working Conditions

  • The position may require working on-site at construction locations.
  • Regular travel to project sites and meetings may be required.
  • The role may involve working extended hours to meet project deadlines.
